UNiDAYS members take a stand

We are so impressed by how many of our UNiDAYS members are taking a stand in supporting important issues such as racial equality and LGBTQ+ rights. A major congratulations goes to Jennifer Rust and Jacob Robles for winning our competition. Their incredible stories are steps in the right direction and we hope you all continue to listen, speak out and take action. Check out their stories below!

Meet Jennifer!

Jennifer Rust and her best friend, Kieran Pheasant, created a shop on RedBubble called Sketch It Up. The two have been using their drawing skills to create designs that can be sold so that they can use the profits to donate to charities. 100% of their profits go towards a different charity each month. In June, they chose to send their funds to The Trans Justice Funding Project which is an organization that supports grassroots trans groups. Jennifer says “As two college students (we both go to University of Delaware), we didn’t have the extra funds to really donate the way we wanted to and we also wanted to express our support for these many causes and movements in the way we knew best to express ourselves—art.”

Meet Jacob!

Jacob Robles has been advocating for marginalized students at his public university and has become the Director of Equity and Multicultural Affairs. Jacob says “I am currently working on addressing the issues of systematic racism that are abundant in my university and am working with the admin to make sure students' wants and needs are heard. I also have been self-educating by reading texts from James Baldwin and Dubois in order for me to be a better anti-racist. I have attended a BLM teach-in hosted by my school's Africana and black studies department and that was wonderful. As a queer LatinX, I’m just also being unapologetically myself and fostering self-love. Last year I started a queer people of color caucus and we met monthly and just got to be beautiful brown queers together so I advocate a lot in my free time for queers of color because there’s still a lot of work to be done with the white-centric lgbtq+ scene.”
