8 fall fashion essentials for every guy

Falling for these trends

It’s the most wonderful time of the year - Fall! Temperatures are getting cooler, the colors are beautiful and earthy - so stock up on your browns, dark greens, and navys. What’s great about most of these items is that they will still be great in the winter, and depending on where you live, you may even want to layer some of these this fall and winter. Now it’s important for me to mention that while I think these will look good on most guys, this is still my opinion. Ultimately you have to wear what makes you feel good and confident, but if you haven’t tried these I think it’s worth a shot.

Now because every great outfit starts with the shoes, we are going to start at the bottom and work our way up.

Boots

You need some boots - period. Get some in brown or black leather, or even a tan suede - or one of each, why not? My personal favorite is a pair of Dr. Martens, or any brand of Chelsea Boots or Chukkas.

Jeans

Everyone needs a good pair of broken in jeans. I think everyone has their favorite pair of jeans, and if you don’t then who are you and what are you doing?

Chinos (Maybe Even Corduroy?)

If you want to step your pants game up try some chinos, or if you want to stand out a little more, maybe try some corduroy. I can’t rock corduroy's but some can, and maybe that’s you. My favorite pair of chinos that I have tried are American Eagle’s skinny cut. Now let me be clear because a lot of people confuse chinos with traditional, baggy khakis. Chinos are typically tapered at the leg, often a slim straight or skinny cut. Traditional and baggy khakis are just… no. Help me help you, and don’t wear those.

Flannel

You can’t go wrong with a classic red and black checkered flannel, but there are so many different patterns to choose from like striped or plaid. Thrift shops are usually the best place to scope out some cheap flannels.

Crew or V-Neck Sweater

If you want to go for a classier look, I love a dress shirt and sweater combo. A simple white dress shirt and navy blue sweater is a great look for a smart-casual look. Or you could swap the navy blue sweater for a maroon or a dark green sweater.

Denim Jacket

I absolutely love my denim jacket. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve made. I have a pretty standard dark blue wash, and it’s a great combination with black jeans or maroon chinos. But lighter denim jackets can be sharp too. You ultimately just want to be sure you aren’t matching denim, you don’t want to look like you are wearing a Canadian tuxedo.

Scarf

I know it seems simple, but a scarf can change the entire outfit. Just don’t get anything too flashy. Keep it classic and simple!

Get A Cool Hat

I know some people are going to love this, and some are going to hate this. But I absolutely love hats, especially fedoras and flatcaps! You could even go for a beanie if you want, but I like the classic look of a fedora or flatcap the most.

Bonus* Beard!

Technically a bonus, even though I think you could rock a beard year round. But if you can grow a beard or a mustache I would highly recommend it. There’s nothing wrong with being clean shaven, but a beard is cool and fun! Just make sure you take care of it with some quality beard oil, balm and/or wash! If you need a recommendation, check out Beardbrand, their products are amazing.
