5 artists your school should consider booking for Homecoming

If you could book the ultimate concert lineup who’d you choose, a mix of musical genres or a consistent theme of popular artist? Is it more about the music for you, or the turn-up? On a scale of 1-10, how likely are you to join in a mosh pit? I’m sure your student government is dying to know.

With homecoming right around the corner, artists need booking and your Student Government needs some inspo. Keep democracy alive and nominate these 5 artists for your school’s homecoming— Who knows, maybe you’ll be President next year (baby steps.)

1. Arin Ray (R&B/ Soul)

Does the name Arin Ray ring any bells? Maybe a very faint ring, but you’ve definitely seen him on X- Factor like five years ago. Life after (talent competition) is looking pretty bright for the young singer and rightfully so. After dropping his most recent project Platinum Fire, including the chant-worthy single “We Ain’t Homies”, Ray has hit up every spot in his transplant home of LA, reminding us just how deep his artistry runs. His latest performance at USC left everyone on a soothing natural high— If you’re into swaggering mid-tempo jams, slick chord progressions, and intimate crowd engagement, this is your guy!

2. Glass Animals (Indie Rock)

Dave, Drew, Edmund, and Joe are the dynamic foursome that makes up the pineapple-obsessed band that is Glass Animals! They're simply unique to the industry and without the slightest bit of hesitation. Lead singer and guitarist, Dave is the ultimate MC, steering all listening into a celebratory trance. Their last album, How to be a Human Being is as accurate as the title blatantly suggest and with trippy hypnotic tunes like, “Pork Soda” and “The Other Side of Paradise”, I guarantee you’ll find it hard to stand still.

3. Rico Nasty (Hip Hop/ Rap)

There’s Uzi, Trippy Red, 6ix9ine, Lil Yachty, and a host of other male rappers embodying the ballsy sub-genre that is “emo-trap”. However, there’s a female contender that ups the ante and makes it look all too bad-ass in the process— Rico Nasty is a force of nature and assertive performer who gets the crowd indulged with her straightforward quirky demeanor. From edgy wardrobe choices to in your face lyrics, Rico makes music for the barmy rebel. Are you prepared to scream at the top of your lungs and release some built up tension? You ’ll definitely need it before midterms, thank me now :)

4. Anne-Marie (Pop)

This London-bred pop star is on the cusp of flawed ambitions and careless confidence. Anne-Marie’s trendy tunes are the perfect soundtrack to an early AM class, college love story, cheery Friday night after a long study sess’, or an epic homecoming concert— See what I did there? Her collaborative projects include your faves, from Calvin Harris to Marshmello, and the popular trio that is Clean Bandits! I mean honestly, her songs have ensued crazy dance parties at pretty much every major music festival globally and now your school, maybe?

5. Chloe x Halle (R&B/ Soul)

They’re the duo that’s sweeping the nation one harmony and a synchronized sway at a time. grown-ish stars and Parkwood-signed artists, Chloe x Halle are a breath of fresh air in music and millennial culture. Their debut album, The Kids Are Alright is all shimmering, uplifting and youthful. As advocating voices of what is now and what’s to come, these two ladies create music that’ll certainly outlive us all. After finishing up OTR ll Tour with the “you-know-whos”, it’s safe to say your chances of booking them are optimistically high.
