Vinted hacks to sell your wardrobe in 48 hours
Just take a picture, set a price and BOOM, your going-out dress/terrible shirt/last year’s Halloween costume is ready to sell on Vinted. That’s why the app has become so popular with bargain hunters and spring cleaners alike. But… it’s also why your item might not be getting snapped up so quickly.
Let’s get you to the top of everyone’s shopping lists. Here are some Vinted hacks to get more eyes on your listings and a good price for your pre-loved gear.
Wash and package first
Would you be chuffed if you opened a parcel and it made your eyes water? Us neither. Before you even pick up your phone, make sure you give the items you want to sell a good clean. Whether it’s a machine wash or dry clean, get your clothes in the best possible condition for the buyer. It’ll also make them look better in your listing photos.
After you’ve snapped some pics for your listing, package your item up straight away. This means you can get it shipped quickly once it's bought, which is key for those all-important ratings, but also ensures you don’t have a last-min panic over finding suitable packaging.
Take pics that turn heads
Ok, this sound really obvious, but the photos you take will be the first impression a potential buyer gets of your item. So you need to make them look good. Choose a spot with good natural light and hang up your clothes so the full piece can be clearly seen. Then take photos of:
- The front
- The back
- Any important details, labels or tags
If you feel comfortable, also post pictures of yourself wearing that item. You can blur or crop your face if needed, but this gives buyers a useful reference for what the clothes look like on a real person.
Think about pricing
Most Vinted buyers are looking for a fashion bargain (especially students), so it’s important to leave wiggle room for them to make an offer. Then, if lots of people have liked your item but it's not selling, you can reach out to them with a final price suggestion.
Your price should also reflect the quality of your item. For example, if it’s a new, never-worn piece from a top brand, you’ll wanna price it higher than something… eh-hem, pre-loved. If you’re not sure what your item is worth, search for similar ones on the platform to see what they’re selling for.
Plus, keep in mind that your buyer will also need to pay a protection and postage fee, as this can cost up to £10 extra per item.
Bundle up
Using the ‘bundle’ option on your profile can be a win-win. The buyer gets a discount when they buy multiple items and you sell more of your items quickly. If certain items work well together, such as t-shirts or shorts, then you can bundle these up together yourself and offer them for a bargain price.
Write detailed captions
For your item to appear in as many searches as possible, add as much detail into your description as you can. Alongside an interesting caption, including specific features such as colours, detailing and what occasions your item might be perfect for can all help it be found more easily.
Including previous listings of the piece can help a buyer with measurements and extra pictures. You can find this by image searching a photo of your item using Google Lens. Make sure you also add in any information about flaws or marks. Otherwise, your buyer could return an item or give you a bad rating.
Time your listing
Think about whether the items you’re trying to sell match the upcoming season. You don’t want to be selling sandals in winter and a faux fur coat in spring, for example. Also, list your items in the evenings, particularly on a Sunday. These are the most popular times for people to search, so it will help you get eyes on your items quickly.
Be flexible with postage
If you have InPost, Yodel, EVRi or Royal Mail drop-off points close to you, then you should offer your buyers all the postage options on your items. This gives them more delivery choices, which could persuade buyers to make an offer on your clothes over others.
Reupload unsold items
If a couple of weeks have passed and your clothes haven’t sold or got many likes, it might be time to take your listing down and repost. Try taking new pictures and list them at a different time of day to see if it attracts more attention.
Or, if your item has a few likes, then reach out to those users with a new price. This might help your clothes sell more quickly.
