8 choices of wedding wear you don't hate

Getting dressed for a wedding still gives me the chills from being 8 years old and mum telling me to put my best dress on and behave because we were going to a family event. Then, you have to be good all day, not get yourself mucky and try not to eat too much cake. Let’s be honest, it’s pretty much the same when we get invited to weddings these days but luckily we get to choose our own outfits now. Wins all round. Until you realise how much of a minefield wedding dressing actually is...

For starters, you can’t wear white, cream, ivory or even pale pink at a push. Then, you don’t want to go full on sass if it’s a day wedding and not be totes appropes and then you also don’t want to show up the bride and be totally out there with your outfit choice. Drama? Not what you need! Here are 8 outfits that you’ll actually love and you can actually wear to the next wedding you’re invited to!

Midi magic

The midi dress has had a resurgence this summer and it’s all about that demure look. Scared about looking frumpy? Add heels and a slick of lipstick and there’s no way in hell you’ll feel anything less than amazing. First up on the list is this gorgeous Missguided Floral Wrap Dress which is available from ASOS with your killer 10% UNiDAYS discount - of course. This is a gorgeous navy number which will go with almost any colour of shoes and it’s an absolute steal at only £25, even before your discount! Wear this baby again with flat sandals and a basket bag for the perfect daytime summer look.

To finish off in my Midi Magic selection is this Paper Dolls Orange Lace High Neck Dress which is also available from the mothership that is ASOS.com. This warm-toned high neck dress will look fabulous on any skin tone and with any skin colour and it’s definitely wearable again for a posh interview or fancy dinner.

Jump to it!

Down to the jumpsuits and I am 100% on board with this style. A one piece is super easy to wear and can sometimes be a lot more comfortable than a dress if you prefer to cover up! Let’s get straight in with the stripes from Miss Selfridge with the most flattering culotte legs and wrap front - ideal for any shapes and sizes. Trust me, you’ll look sweet in this whatever body shape you have. It also comes in red which is super cute and would be awesome for an evening reception.

Topshop are at it again with the florals and this gorgeous (and very well priced!) flowery jumpsuit. This would be ideal with flat sandals and a denim jacket for a more relaxed wedding, or you could easily dress it up with some simple black heels. Pick out any of the colours for your accessories or lipstick and you’ll look effortlessly chic.

If you need to up the style stakes and stand out from the crowd then this incredible ASOS wrap front jumpsuit in this amazing bright pink colour is perfect. Simple shoes and nude lips are all you need with this. Style hair in a sleek low bun and you’ve nailed that Insta-worthy outfit - trust me.

Cutie two pieces

If a jumpsuit just isn’t stylish enough for you then a two-piece can really rocket you up into the street style stakes. This Miss Selfridge rust blazer and wide leg trousers suit would look fantastic with a cream cami, massive gold earrings and so much bronzer you look like you’ve lived in Bali for a year. I am totally about this look. The colour of this will be fantastic for September weddings when people start to think about those autumn leaves. Plus, you can wear both pieces again separately in both casual and smarter outfits so it’s basically a million outfits in one. You’re welcome.

If a suit gives you too many office vibes - never fear - a two piece doesn’t always have to involve a blazer! Work your minimal magic in this light grey Topshop culotte set. True, this is slouchy but slobby it is not. This is chic style at it’s finest and all you need are minimal shoes and barely-there makeup to make a statement!

Finally in this wedding wear line up is possibly my favourite piece and it’s a super cute spotty set from Topshop. It's classic, retro and modern all in one. Pair with tassel earrings to ramp up the Vogue-worthy style or a red lip to turn on the retro vibes.
