5 places to get the best meatballs in the UK

Meatballs have to be the unsung hero of the meat-based world. I mean they’re seriously delicious and versatile too. Want 'em with spaghetti? Done. Want 'em in bread? Also done!

The trouble is, there aren’t many meatball-only restaurants and the ones doing it well can be hard to find. Fear not, I’ve lined up five epic restaurants serving up some tasty balls for you to check out.

1.Capish? Street Food

The guys at Capish? First starting trading in 2012 from their humble street food tent. Focusing on American-Italian classics, the guys make some seriously good food from the best ingredients you can buy.

You can now find them trading at Kerb Street Food and also at their permanent home Mason & Company which they started with the equally delicious Five Points Brewery.

2.Jamie’s Italian

Jamie’s Italian is the first of two chains on this list. It’s an ideal place to go with friends and family and serves up some great grub. I’ve always been a big fan of Jamie and find his food to be tasty, fuss-free and good value.

His menu keeps it simple but sometimes all you need is a big plate of meatballs, al dente spaghetti and classic tomato sauce. All topped with a little parmesan, of course.

3.The Bowler

The Bowler was the original meatball street food trader. Starting way back in 2011 in his grass-covered van, Jez put on supper clubs for friends before venturing to the streets. In his own words he literally ‘put his balls on the line’.

The Bowlers menu is pretty vast, offering a range of meat-based balls as well as the super tasty vegetarian balls made from chickpeas, spinach and ricotta.

4.Zizzi

The second of the chains on the list, Zizzi is my go-to comfort food restaurant. I’m slowly working my way through everything but their oven-baked wild boar meatballs are seriously some of my faves.

The meatballs are a mixture of wild boar and pork, baked in a skillet with pasta, smoked mozzarella, garlic and spinach in a rich tomato sauce. What’s not to love about that? To make it taste even better, you can get 30% off with your UNiDAYS app!

5.IKEA

In my opinion, no meatball list would be complete without IKEA. Everyone’s favourite furniture company is renowned for its insanely busy food halls serving up the treats we all love.

This time we’re dropping the pasta and tomato sauce for a little more of a scandi vibe. Throwing in some comforting mash potatoes and a thick, tasty gravy over the top. I mean, is any trip to IKEA complete without a plate of meatballs?

There we have it guys, five places that you can get your hands on some delicious meatballs. So let’s come together and give these delicious little guys some well-deserved credit!
