Yes, it’s a brand new decade. And, sorry, but there’s no time to dwell on it. Not when there’s tonnes of fun stuff to get up to. We’ve asked the nightlife know it alls at DesignMyNight to get your year off right with all-new immersive experiences, an entire weekend dedicated to brunch and London’s weirdest workshops.
A brand new immersive experience is coming to London this year, and if it’s good enough for a sold-out run in Hong Kong? We say it’s good enough for us. The Invitation will see you leav-ing your identity at the door, as everyone will be given a role to play in the deadly production. After you’ve entered using a secret password, you’ll be set loose in a historic building to un-cover dark secrets and liaise with creepy masked characters. You’d better come with your thinking caps on... cracking a murder case is a lot harder than it looks.
Mars and Beyond sees 2020 as the perfect time to introduce London to some tough truths, but don’t worry – it will be in a creative way that makes things a little less scary. This space-age immersive art show will see you embarking on a journey across five floors to discover what the future may hold for mankind. Can things be fixed? Will we be packing up our lives and making a beeline for mars? All of your questions will be explored through film screenings, VR, performances, music and more…
If you’ve decided that this is the year to venture outside of your comfort zone, there’s no bet-ter place to start than Drink Shop & Do. While posing as a cute cafe and spritz bar by day, unusual antics take place in this drinks den after dark as you take part in everything from lu-dicrous workshops… to a vagina cupcake decorating class. Yep. Whether your artistic in-stincts take you down the abstract route or you’re aiming to replicate the real thing, you can guarantee giggles, great cocktails and fun facts about the body part in question.
A new cutting-edge golf hub has landed just in time for the next decade, courtesy of London’s resident activity bar geniuses at Puttshack. The cheats in your group won’t know what’s hit ‘em, as this game’s all about automatic scoring. Keep an eye on the live leaderboard as you putt through Pac Man-themed holes and take a swing at the electronic prize wheel in this ne-on-mad course. All that putting got you hangry? Food includes a lengthy pizza menu where the prices start at just £9. You’ll also find plenty of punchy cocktails, including The Big Pine-apple that’s made for two.
If at any point in the year you find yourself lacking in fun, laughs or luck, a trip to Dabbers Bingo is the number one antidote. Turning their purpose-built bingo hall into party-central, the team behind this raucous event are redefining bingo as we know it. Expect all the anticipation of the classic game mixed with comedic hosts, eye-catching performers, tasty cocktails and wacky prizes thrown in for good measure. 44, droopy drawers? They won’t let you sit still long enough to worry about it.
Uni student budget getting limp? Well here’s your chance to significantly increase your funds (kind of…). We’re going on a bank raid folks, and it’s gonna be a big one. Immersive theatre experience The Heist begins with a briefing from none other than London’s most notorious gang boss, before you’re left to manoeuvre five hidden chambers containing dodgy charac-ters and deceiving puzzles. Smooth criminals will be rewarded with a complimentary cocktail. While unfortunate crooks could be ending their mission with a jail sentence...
What’s the only thing that can stop us from having a post-summer pity party? An entire weekend dedicated to brunch - that’s what. This September will see the return of Design-MyNight’s annual Brunch Weekender, and you can bet your bacon it’s gonna be the best one yet. All of your favourite eateries across the capital will be offering exclusive brunch deals including bottomless brunches for just £20. Last year saw ‘grammable venues, new rooftop gardens and a kitsch 70s style house-cum-bar take part, meaning there’s no limits to what 2020 can bring for brunch lovers. Eggscellent.
You’ve got one night to try all of the best bars in Leeds, but where do you go? Cocktails in the City, silly. Returning in February for its biggest and best event to date, big-name watering holes will be showing off their signature flare at this epic festival, which also includes interac-tive masterclasses, award-winning street food and live music. Cocktails are just is £6.50 on the night. But the best part? A £9 ticket doesn’t just get you entry, there’s a free drink to kick-start your booze-fuelled adventures.
Step into the unknown at The North Laine Pub with Brighton’s newest (and by far the strang-est) immersive experience. Your journey begins with a cheeky ‘Drink Me’ tipple, before you’re hurled into the trippy and treacherous New Wonderland with the task of cracking clues in ex-change for gold. The bonkers storyline will see you bargaining with wacky characters and tackling bizarre escape rooms. But the real challenge? Trying to explain what you did last weekend to your mates at Monday’s lecture…
If you’ve got a habit of creating show-stopping bakes, your time to shine has finally arrived with Birmingham's first ever competitive baking pop-up. Teams of two will be whisking their way to glory in a fully kitted out marquee, with 90 minutes to whip up a masterpiece worthy of the crown. All of the ingredients are provided, so if it flops, you only have yourself to blame. And don’t expect any sugar-coated comments from the judges - if it’s inedible, you’ll know about it (but hey, that’s just the way the cookie crumbles, kids).
