Top 5 brain foods

We could talk about food all day everyday here at the UNiDAYS® HQ, we love it! So we thought we’d share a bunch of top tips with you all, and some delicious recipe ideas of course.

1. Oily fish

Essential fatty acids cannot be made in the body, so we gotta eat some. The most effective omega-3 fats are in fish and salmon’s our fave – try adding lemon, chilli and garlic, you won’t regret it (seriously)! Now for the facts. Omega-3 helps boost a healthy brain function, heart, joints and general wellbeing so it’s a win win. lydia-article-1 c/o Buzzfeed.com

2. Broccoli

A great source of vitamin K, which is known to enhance cognitive function and improve brainpower. (Cognitive function includes reasoning, memory, attention, and language leading directly to the attainment of information and knowledge.) Check out this Asian broccoli salad with peanut sauce! Yep, broccoli ain’t just for Sunday dinners, although they’re good too. lydia-article-3 c/o gimmesomeoven.com

3. Blueberries

Super tasty, easily available and great for on the go, so there’s no excuse! Research from Tufts University suggests that blueberries may help to improve or delay short term memory loss! Blueberry smoothies taste great but, we’re not saying blueberry cupcakes/muffins/pancakes/cheesecake don’t count too (score)! lydia-article-4 c/o delicouslysprinkled.com

4. Coconut oil

Populations who eat a LOT of coconut oil are among the healthiest people on the planet such as Tokelauans, who live in the South Pacific. There’s a tonne of benefits to using coconut oil and it contains a unique combination of fatty acids with powerful medicinal properties! lydia-article-2 c/o cookingclassy.com

5. Spinach

It may not give you huge muscles (think Popeye) but spinach can do wonders for your brain. It’s an amazing source of vitamin B which benefits the brain in so many ways. It helps to maintain a healthy brain circulation and form neurotransmitters needed for all thinking and learning. We’re loving this spinach, avocado, chicken & cranberry salad! So there you have it, we’re not saying eating these will guarantee you top grades, you’ve gotta put the hard work in too but it’s a great place to start. On that note, we’re off to the kitchen!
