Here’s What You’ll Be Doing On Your Project Everest Ventures Internship

At UNiDAYS we are passionate about finding ways to help students get ahead and connect them with causes that we know they care about. That’s why we are teaming up with Project Everest Ventures again to bring you a unique opportunity to participate in an overseas internship with a BIG impact - for you, and the world.

If you are interested in social change, environmental sustainability, agriculture or health then keep reading because you don’t want to miss out on one of their upcoming life-changing ventures...

What does this involve?

An overseas internship with PEV is built around the idea of addressing a social issue and creating a long-term and beneficial solution to that issue within a local community.

You will be playing a hands-on role, working directly with the local community you’re immersed within, on a team of 6-8 other student ‘trekkers’. You will have a highly trained Team Leader who will facilitate the project growth and be looking after the wellbeing of the team throughout the internship, as well as Seniors Leaders who keep the entire group running smoothly.

Where are these local communities you speak of?

You can get involved across India, Timor-Leste, Malawi or Fiji with each venture tackling an issue across one of the following areas;

Female Hygiene and Sanitation (enabling better sanitation practices and education)

Solar Solutions & Energy Infrastructure (providing access to reliable, off-the-grid, and efficient energy using alternatives and sustainable sources)

Microfinance & Social Consulting (remove barriers to affordable small-scale loans and business advice to support local small business development)

Hidden Hunger – Nutrition Advice (end stunted growth in Sub-Saharan Africa through tailored nutrition and agriculture advice)

Fuel Sustainability & Biomass Fuels (developing sustainable and resource efficient cooking practises with reduced harmful emissions)

Agriculture Consulting (enabling food security for 475 million smallholder farmers around the world through tech-enabled advice)

When can I go?

Summer internships will last for either 4, 8 or 12 weeks, depending on the project availability and will be held across the following project dates:

WINTER 2020

  • 01 June - 26 June 2020 (Malawi only)
  • 07 June – 26 June 2020 (Fiji only)
  • 29 June - 25 July 20

SUMMER 2020-2021

  • 23 November - 19 December 2020
  • 03 January - 29 January 2021
  • 02 February - 28 February 2021

The logistics

We aren’t going to sugarcoat it… you won’t be staying in a 5-star resort, you will rarely have hot water for showering and the mattresses won’t be as comfy as home. But, the idea is that you get a real and raw taste of what life is like as a local and in turn, this will help you have a better understanding of just how important the work you’re doing on your project really is.

There will be a local cook in each country preparing dinner and brekkie for you every weekday. Lunch will be yours to do as you please so why not get out there and experience the local cuisine!

Transport related to the project you’re on will be sorted by your team leader and you’ll be required to source a local sim card before you arrive so that you always have a means of communication.

After project hours and on weekends you will be free to explore and immerse yourself in the countries culture! PEV recommends that you get out of the local areas or city and see what your country has to offer whether that be site seeing, snorkelling or going on a Safari. Make sure you make the most of your time in-country!

University funding

Your university may offer access to academic credit, scholarships or grants that may support you in taking part in this internship. Alternatively, you may be eligible for an OS-HELP loan. For more information, check this out.

How do I apply?

Take 2 mins to complete this application form here. PEV will then give you a call or send you an email to have a chat and get to know a bit about you. You will then be invited to an interview with the PEV team.

All successful candidates will be required to attend pre-departure training - so don’t worry, you’ll be kept up to date with everything you need to know before you jet off!

By participating in a Project Everest Ventures internship, you will not only set yourself apart from your peers and experience huge professional and personal growth, you’ll also return home knowing you have contributed to solving real-world problems in the developing world - and we think that’s pretty damn cool!
