9 Tips to Surviving O Week

We’re starting to feel the O Week buzz here at UNiDAYS® HQ! After discussing our O Week survival stories, I’ve compiled a list of the top tips you’ll need for surviving your own O Week.

1. Get In The Know

Be sure to take any O Week booklets or flyers so you’re in the know about what events are taking place during O Week.  You can also search on your university's website if you’re feeling extra keen.

2. Take ALL The Freebies

Seriously, all of them.  Get as many free tote bags as you can, USB sticks are also a great freebie, along with posters to decorate your room and food.  If there’s free food giveaways take it.

3. Check Out Societies and Sports Clubs

Whether you’re into sports or just look for another way to socialise, societies and sports clubs are definitely the way to go! I was part of the Volleyball society when I went to university, and so were some of my closest friends.

4. Be Prepared For Fancy-Dress

You may not even like fancy dress when you start university, but you certainly will by graduation! Find out what events are taking place during O Week and what fancy dress will be required because you’ll definitely look like the odd one if you’re not dressed up.

5. Stay Fresh Faced

O Week is so exciting and heavy, so be sure to remember to sleep every now and then to avoid getting sick, remember you still have inductions and early classes to prioritise.

6. Wear Comfortable Shoes

Ladies, this one’s for you. Heels are basically a no-no during O Week, so get a pair of cheap comfy shoes using your UNiDAYS® discount, you can currently get up to 30% off the likes of AJOY Levora, The Iconic and Surfstitch if you’re feeling stuck.

7. Make Friends

Starting this chapter of your life can be pretty daunting, so be sure to pick up some trusty allies along the way and don’t leave behind those you already know.  It’s true what they say about meeting your friends for life at uni!

8. Don’t Blow All Your Money

If you’re living on a budget for the next three years, don’t blow all your money on O Week, it’s incredibly easy to do and you’ll regret it next week when you’re asked to buy 22 books to help you pass your first year course.

9. Have Fun

Be sure to enjoy yourself, O Week doesn't last forever and it will fly by!
