6 ways to make some extra cash in your semester break

First off, congrats. You have (almost) survived another year of uni. We all know that ‘full time study’ isn’t really full time at all, and for most of us we are approaching those weird months between uni wrapping up and Christmas holidays where you aren’t sure weather you’re meant to be laying in bed for 12 hours a day, or working your butt off.

Although getting drunk every night and staying in bed watching Netflix every day sounds appealing, your bank account may not thank you. Now is the perfect time to get out there and make some extra cash to make sure you have the best summer holidays ever. (And maybe even buy your mum something nice this Christmas.) Here are some simple ways to boost your bank account this semester break...

1. House sitting

This has got to be the most appealing way to make money. Playing house in someone else’s place while they go on holiday while getting PAID? Where do I sign up?

2. Tutor

With the end of the university year comes the start of the year 12 exam period. If you have skills in a particular area, why not offer up extra help to kids about to sit their final exams? Oh, and parents who are freaking out about their kid’s grades are likely to pay the big bucks for your help.

3. Babysit

Heaps of primary schools finish in early December now, and working parents will need an extra hand when it comes to childcare. On top of that, between now and December, many people are usually flooded with end of year parties and work functions, most of which are kid-free. Set up a profile online, or ask family and friends to put out some good word.

4. Become an Uber driver

With all this free time on your hands, why not sign up to become an Uber driver? All you need is a licence and a car, plus you can work your own hours.

5. Sell your junk

It’s as good a time as ever to spend some time cleaning out your bedroom and getting rid of all things you don’t want anymore. Apps like Carousel and marketplace on Facebook are a perfect and easy way to offload junk. Remember, your trash is someone else’s treasure.

6. Clean out your old textbooks

See that pile of first year textbooks over there? Yeah, probably don’t need those anymore. Help out another struggling student by offloading them in second hand online groups. Students do have a reputation for being poor; so set yourself apart this semester break. Oh, and keep the beer money flowing.
