6 Reasons To Love Your Nation

As Autumn sets in around us and with exams looming on the horizon it's easy to allow ourselves to drift off to a dreamworld of pristine European beaches, lush South East Asian rainforests and breathtaking Continental architecture. But stop, look around! Does Australia not provide it’s own pristine beaches, it’s own lush rainforests, it’s own stunning architecture? It’s time to stand up proud and say it loud - Straya is gorgeous! Let’s raise our goon to this great nation and explore some of the most beautiful areas we have to offer. Our mates at Vimeo are even offering 50% off their plus or pro membership for you guys to get out and start shooting the hell out of the landscape. Nifty!

Cape Tribulation, QLD

Let’s kick off with one of the best showcases of Aussie natural beauty: Cape Tribulation. As one of only two areas in the world where the rainforest meets the reef, and as the single place on earth where two heritage sites border one another, this one is a right beauty. Whether you’re exploring the canopy of the Daintree Rainforest, taking a lazy river boat cruise or meandering along the spotless beaches, this destination is seriously camera-ready.

Shell Beach, WA

One of the most intriguing areas of Australia, Shell Beach located in the World Heritage Site of Shark Bay along Coral Coast is simply something extraordinary. This snow-white beach is made up of millions and millions of tiny shells which stretches over a total of 120km! This contrast with the sparkling turquoise of the Indian Ocean really is a beauty to behold.

King’s Canyon NT

In contrast to the lush blues, greens and whites of the last two examples, King’s Canyon is bursting with deep reds and burnt oranges making the place seem pulsing through it’s colours. As already suggested by it’s title, this canyon packs some serious punch and with walls over 100m high it is clear why so many flock to get footage of this natural beast.

Blue Mountains, NSW

This list just would not be complete without a mention of the Blue Mountains, one of Australia’s most famous (and may I add gorgeous) landscapes. As another World Heritage Site, this location really delivers with striking rock formations such as the Three Sisters, stunning waterfalls and vast forests of eucalyptus - the last of which helps to create the blue haze that sits across the mountains. This in itself is something that needs to be captured.

Barossa Valley, SA

For all of you wine-os out there here’s something for you! As one of Straya’s renowned wine producing regions, the acres and acres of vineyards stretching far over rolling hills is every grape lover’s dream. Make sure to get snappy happy here and then when finished why not chill out with a regional speciality Shiraz - not a goon sack in site.

Melbourne Architecture, VIC

Our final example of Aussie beauty comes in the form not of natural wonders but of human creation: Melbourne architecture. As a great example of the juxtaposition of old and new buildings, Melbourne’s cityscape really is striking. Shot-worthy examples across Australia’s second city includes the ultra-modern Eureka Tower and the NGV. The NGV also offers an intriguing mix of architecture across two sites, most notably the world’s largest stained glass ceiling located in the NGV Great Hall. In contrast to these modern examples, Melbourne also offers much in terms of traditional and Victorian architecture, hence it’s title as Australia’s “most European city”. One of the most famous of these must be Flinders Street station - the staple meeting point in Melbourne as well as being visually stunning. Bank Place offers a final example of glorious architecture around the city, which showcases some of the greatest examples of pre-war buildings between 1860s and 1920s. Soak up the history and prepare to share this awesomely photogenic city.
