5 Health And Fitness Myths

We can all get a little bit health and fitness mad sometimes, overworking specific areas of your body or starting crazy diet plans all for the benefit of a slender bod.  But the truth is, most of these activities are complete myths! Here are 5 which you should really know about:

1. It’s better to exercise on an empty stomach

If you’ve ever been told that you should never eat before exercising because you burn more fat, then you have been told wrong!  Eating before you work out is very important in order to fuel your exercise, allowing you to engage in an intense workout.  I’m not saying head to your nearest McDonalds and binge out on a Big Mac, but if you eat a healthy snack before you work out, you’re likely to get better results and not feel starved after your gym sesh is over.  If you’re stuck for snack ideas, why not try MyProtein’s snack attack bundle to fuel your workout. 2. Doing crunches reduces belly fat

Sorry ladies, but the truth is crunches are less effective in giving you a flat stomach, if anything it will do the opposite because you are essentially toning your muscles.  If you want to work on losing body fat then you should focus your attention more on walking or jogging. 3. No pain no gain!

It’s a known fact that if you are generally in pain then it’s a bad thing, so why should it be any different if you’re working out?  Working through pain can cause long term problems for your body and fitness level so really pain = no gain! 4. Working out will make you lose weight

Although working out is very good for your body and your health, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re going to be losing weight.  Exercise only amounts to 20% of your overall weight loss, so if losing weight is what you’re really focussed on, then you need to ensure that you’re eating a healthy diet as well as taking part in fitness activities. 5. You can target your weight loss by doing exercise for specific areas of your body

Targeting specific areas of your body for weight loss or “spot-reducing” has been known to not work.  Where you lose weight on your body is mainly based around where you gain weight first.  Although this may shed light on those pointless exercises you’ve been doing, it is actually really beneficial to know, stop focussing on one part of your body and begin the full body workouts and the results will show!
