5 Game of Thrones Season 8 predictions you need to read

1. Cersei becoming the Mad Queen

We have already seen Cersei use wildfire to destroy Kings Landing where she burned down the Great Scept of Baelor. Now with all her loved ones having died or left, there is nothing to hold Cersei back from reigning terror over everyone in Westeros. Seeing Cersei become the final villain would certainly make for a much more fascinating final showdown against Jon and Daenerys than just seeing a living versus zombies battle.

2. The Valonqar

In the books, Cersei was prophesied to be strangled to death by the Valonqar. In season 7 we were shown Cersei and Jamie plotting how to defeat their enemies, with Cersei standing on ‘the neck’ of Westeros and Jamie standing on ‘the fingers’. This may well be foreshadowing what to expect in season 8. Will Jamie have to be the one to kill Cersei, the mad queen, just as he did the Mad King? This really would be enthralling to see happen and would complete both characters’ arcs perfectly.

3. Cleganebowl

At the end of season 7 we finally witnessed the Hound confront his brother ‘The Mountain’. The Hound told him ‘you know who’s coming for you, you’ve always known’. This is one of the more obvious predictions for season 8. Although, we know the Mountain is also on Arya’s list so who knows, maybe we will see both of them team up once again to take on the most formidable foe in Westeros.

4. Jon rides a dragon

It was finally confirmed in season 7 that Jon Snow’s real name is Aegon Targaryen, son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Leanna Stark. In the books, we are told only someone of Valayrian heritage can ride a dragon. This is as the great city of Valaryia was once filled with dragons and dragon riders and only someone who has the magical blood of a Valaryian can ride a dragon. The question remains, however; will Jon ride Drogon, who we saw him build a connection with in season 7? Or will he ride Rhaegal, who was named after Jon’s father? Now we know Jon has Valaryian blood we know he can ride a dragon and all Game of Thrones fans are dying to see the personification of ice and fire ride a dragon into battle against the Night King.

5. Daenerys has a baby

Throughout season 7, there are repeated references to Daenerys not being able to bear children. However, Mirri Maz Duur told Daenerys that ‘only death can pay for life’ and, after Viserion was killed by the Night King, perhaps his sacrifice will pay for the life of Daenerys’ child with Jon. Many Game of Thrones theorists believe Daenerys may even die during childbirth, leaving Jon to ride Drogon against the Night King, which would certainly be the bittersweet ending George R. R. Martin talks about, whilst also being truly epic to watch!
