Your Notting Hill carnival survival checklist

It's that time of the year again. The British weather can't seem to make up its mind. Our personal space is being invaded by flying ants who have no remorse. And group chats are starting to pop-up in preparation for Notting Hill Carnival. Notting Hill Carnival is Europe’s biggest annual street party, attracting millions of people in attendance every year. It's definitely an event you won't want to miss!

Although it's such a fun day to attend, make sure you prepare. But don't worry, I've got you! Here are my top tips for surviving the madness, along with a pre-carnival playlist to get you ready. Check it out below!

1. Keep it small

You'll have a vision in your head of how you want the day to go. It'll be the best day ever with all your friends, right? My advice is to keep your group as small as possible because it'll be easier to stay together. Someone will need to go to the bathroom or some people will be hungry whilst others want to find the next artist performing. The point is, to make the day as stress-free as possible and enjoy all the festivities, go with a small group of friends.

2. Stay hydrated

Running from DJ sets to the toilet and behind floats can tire you out, especially if the weather pulls through and it's actually sunny. Make sure to keep a bottle of water close. You don't want to be the one who pauses the fun because you forgot to keep yourself hydrated!

3. Cash is king

One of the best things about carnival is the mesmerising aroma of the food! Wouldn't it be heartbreaking to get to the front of the queue, only to realise you only have your card which they do not accept? Soul destroying. To avoid disappointment, make sure to take out enough cash before you arrive at the carnival. The majority of the cash points in and around the area charge a withdrawal fee.

4. Good vibes only

Lastly but by no means least and possibly the most important tip: Before you step out for your day of fun do not forget to pack some good vibes! Carnival is a happy place and it sucks when people ruin it by forgetting to pack their good vibes. Head out in good spirits and enjoy the feting.

Notting Hill Carnival will take place Sunday 27th and bank holiday Monday 28th August. To kick off the good vibes get yourself jammin’ to this Notting Hill Carnival inspired playlist. Be safe, have fun and now you're ready to fete and frolic. Hero image source
