4 social ways to promote your blog

I’m sure I’m not the first person to say it, and I certainly won’t be the last; being a student is tough. Long days, late nights, deadlines, you name it. But one of the hardest parts, and I’m sure you’ll all agree, is the financial side of things. Do you ever stop and think, where has all my money gone? I know I do.  As a student blogger, I know that finding not only the time, but the money to promote your site is a struggle; if you’re dreaming of becoming the next big thing, whether you have a fashion blog, a site about sport and fitness, or a YouTube channel filled with cooking tips and tricks for students, promotion is essential. There are various ways that you can draw attention to yourself, and what you have to offer, and the internet is obviously the way forward.

Instagram

Instagram is the home of the shameless selfie, but that’s not all it’s good for! No matter what sort of site you are promoting, the use of pictures can be great for capturing peoples attention; whether you choose to integrate within your personal posts, or create a whole new account dedicated to your site, it works. When using Instagram, try not to post too often, a couple of times a day is plenty, however if you go off the radar for too long, people will forget about you! Another top tip is to use original images; if you repeat shots from your blog, what incentive is there for people to go and check it out?

Twitter

For the past few years, Twitter has been the place where people can share near enough anything, no statement too strange. People tend to forget how great it can be for promoting their sites, and all it takes is a link with a snappy comment attached and BAM, it’s thrown into the world wide web; viewers can click on the tweet and be directed straight to your page, and Twitter now offers an ‘interactions’ button where you can see how many people have clicked - how handy is that!? https://twitter.com/martha_molly/status/695943522755735552

Facebook

If you’re just starting up, it can be tough to make yourself known- the internet is a minefield, where do you begin!? Facebook is the perfect place to build a following, as friends and family can help by ‘sharing’ your posts, which will be seen by people you don’t even know… It may sound cliché, but word of mouth is one of the best techniques, as people trust their friends; this is why Facebook is the way forward for beginners.

Snapchat

2015 saw the entry of Snapchat when it came to promotion; from Jack Wills to Topshop, it became the perfect tool for giving people a behind the scenes snippet of things to come. We all have a nosey gene in us somewhere, some more than others, and Snapchat gives viewers the chance to see you up close and personal.
