4 podcasts you need to get your ears round

Whether I’m working or travelling, podcasts have become a massive part of my life. I love my music and there’s not a day that goes by when I don’t listen to some of my favourite tunes but podcasts are a great way for me to disconnect from what I’m doing, learn something new and have a few laughs along the way. I’ve put together a quick list of 4 of my favourite podcasts right now. Now, these might not be for everyone but hopefully, this list will inspire you to go out and find the podcast that’s right for you - especially seeing as it's International Podcast Day on 30th September!

1. Scroobius Pip’s Distraction Pieces

I’m a massive Pip fan, the guy’s an absolute hero and his podcast (and network of podcasts as we will get to) provide a bit of something for everyone. Distraction Pieces are usually about an hour to two hours long and cover off a whole range of topics from the funnier side of life to the more serious issues such as homelessness in the UK. One of his most recent guests was comedian Doc Brown, which provided an epic insight into his life on the scene.

2. Tuesday Night Jaw

TNJ is a part of the Distraction Pieces network I mentioned earlier and is presented by Jim Smallman. If you’re not a British wrestling fan, you can be forgiven for not knowing but Jim Smallman is one of the co-founders of Progress Wrestling, probably one of the biggest UK wrestling companies there is. Tuesday Night Jaw is full of great insights into the world of wrestling as well as having plenty of guests on to talk about their careers and the current position of the wrestling scene.

3. EW’s Game of Thrones Weekly

If you’ve been wanting to discuss just what’s going on in Game of Thrones in greater detail but none of your friends care then this is the podcast for you. Diving deep into each episode, this podcast talks about what’s going on, why it’s going on and what could be around the corner for your favourite Game of Thrones characters. There’s also a bit of behind the scenes talk so if you’re interested to learn what brings the epic series that’s just finished together, then listen on.

4. Under The Skin with Russell Brand

If you like your podcasts deep, complex and to get you thinking then you’d be pushed to find something better than Under The Skin. Russell Brand’s podcast is extremely thought-provoking whilst provided the gritty, dry, wit and humour you’d expand from Brand. At times he goes off on a tangent but you’d expect that and his past life is what helps him massively in expressing his thoughts and feelings on some of the tougher subjects in life.

If any of these podcasts have pricked your ears, the good news is you have like 500 episodes to catch up on. If not, then hopefully they’ve inspired you and made you realise podcasts can be a great source of information and entertainment!
