Christmas has rolled around pretty quickly this year, leaving us all asking, ho ho how is it December? If you’re still not feeling it (and we all know politics ain’t helping with that), we have the solution for you right here. Teaming up with DesignMyNight, we’ve rounded up the finest pop-ups, events and antics across the country that'll leave you feeling super festive. From watching Love Actually in a quirky setting with snow machines to drinking festive cocktails in an edible gingerbread house, this month is set to be anything but ordinary.
The snuggle is real at London Shuffle Club this winter. The capital’s finest shufflers have only gone and installed fire pits for cosying around after you’re done hitting the boards (off peak is £20 per lane at the moment - go, go go). And to make the deal even sweeter? They’re offering out s’mores kits so you and your mates can feel extra-festive while toasting gooey treats, sipping mulled wine and getting plenty of that all-important Insta-content.
Christmas is in no way exclusive to human beings, and whether you’re a dog parent or just love man’s best friend (sorry, but how could you not?) this puppy party is sure to be a cracker. Simply rock up to The Star by Hackney Downs this December and revel in the festivities, as doggo’s get free-pours of pup-friendly brews, tasty treats and prizes for best dressed… there may even be some goodies thrown in for humans too.
Festive fondue? You better brie-lieve it. The Tempest, a beloved seafront pub in Brighton, are dishing out steaming hot bowls of melty, cheesy goodness for £15 per person this winter, providing the perfect warmer for chilly explorers. Made with the finest in Swiss cheeses, and paired with bread, pickles and fruit, there’s even an amped-up meaty option (for the carnivores): the Fondue Bourguignonne with beef steak.
Agree there ain’t no burger quite like a festive burger? We challenge you to find a bun as Christmassy as what Honest Burgers are serving up this December. Picture a juicy beef patty, topped with smoked bacon, deep-fried camembert, cranberry sauce and rocket, stuffed into a brioche bun and served with a complimentary side of rosemary salted chips. At just £12.50, it’s a bloody bargain.
‘Tis the season to indulge a little, and where could be a better place to treat yo’ self than The Chocolate Cocktail Club? This crimbo, the Farringdon pop-up bar will be serving festive concoctions that incorporate mint, salted caramel and gingerbread to give you all the seasonal feels. Tickets are only £9 too, and that includes a complimentary Chocotini (their signature drink), alongside the chance to try edible shot glasses and a strange, but very tasty chocolate beer.
Things are getting lit in the Midlands as Once Upon A Time In Birmingham dazzles with over 88,000 fairy lights (enough to reach the top of Everest) this winter. To ensure everything stays merry and bright, this pop-up is serving up a menu of signature 'illuminating’ cocktails with caramel, chocolate and winter spices, alongside a free festive punch with every £5 ticket. For the ultimate glow up? Explore the cake-filled afternoon tea featuring a light-refracting pud.
Gingerbread houses are popping up across the city, but none are quite like this. Head to Fentimans’ pretty in pink pop-up at rooftop bar Skylight this festive season and you’ll be happily chomping and sipping away thanks to party ring-covered walls and fabulously festive tipples. Round off the experience by throwing some shapes on the ice rink and tucking into street eats from some of London’s fave foodies.
Christmas isn’t complete without a festive movie or two, and The Grand in Clapham know exactly how to do ‘em. With everything from The Nightmare Before Christmas to Love Actually projected on the giant 25ft screen this December, the venue have gone all-out. Expect an epic drink-along from just £12.50 a ticket with mince pies, pigs in blankets, hot dogs and unlimited popcorn, alongside themed cocktails and mulled wine. They may even set off a snow machine or two… if you’re lucky.
How better to get in the Christmas spirit, than with spirits? Bristol babes The Square have set up an Après-ski themed pop-up complete with greenery, twinkling fairy lights and cosy places perfect for chilling with mates. Nestled within the tipis you'll also find a selection of superb things to do, such as roller disco, free film screenings and art installations that combine sound, light and virtual worlds.
No weekend is complete without a bottomless brunch, and where better to sip on Christmas cocktails than everyone’s favourite, Dirty Martini? Manchester friends, assemble your squad and descend on the Deansgate outpost where you can enjoy brilliant bites from a birdcage, sip on unlimited yuletide martinis and dance in your seats to a soundtrack of pop bangers in quintessentially luxe surroundings at £35 per person.
