13 movies to get you excited about 2018

2017 was a great year for movies. It may have been a garbage year for everything else but it brought us gems like Call Me By Your Name, Wonder Woman, Thor: Ragnarok, and Baby Driver. There are a lot of things to look forward to in 2018 namely sequels, reboots, long awaited book-to-film adaptations, and brand new ideas. If you weren't excited before, get excited now. So, to celebrate National Popcorn Day here are 13 movies to get you excited about 2018: An image Gif Source

1. Fifty Shades Freed

The third and final installment of the Fifty Shades trilogy arrives just in time for Valentine's Day. While many agree that the movies are well... okay at best, no one can disagree with just how hot Jamie Dornan is as Christian Grey. See how it all ends. After with how realistic the last couple were (Ana getting her dream job and apartment right after college... because that happens), it'll be nice to sit back, relax, and bask in the ridiculousness of it all.

2. Black Panther

The cast alone is well worth the hype. After a brief glimpse of Black Panther, aka Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa, in Captain America: Civil War fans were more than ready for the hero to get a film of his own. Soon the wait will be over and it seems the entire superhero genre will get a well overdue makeover.

3. A Wrinkle In Time

Based on the much beloved novel of the same name, the film is helmed by visionary director Ava DuVernay. With a star studded cast including Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Gugu Mbatha-Raw it's almost guaranteed that the movie is going to give one hell of a ride. Based on the trailer, one can expect to be taken on a fantastical journey... one they may never want to end.

4. Ready Player One

Set in the near distant future, the only place to go is the virtual world. If you're a fan of pop culture, this is the film for you. A fun game to play with the trailer is to see how many cultural easter eggs you can find. For example, did you notice the Iron Giant? What about the DeLorean? Newcomer Tye Sheridan is certain to make a splash and makes you wonder... how realistic is this future?

5. The New Mutants

Superheroes + horror = a brand new take on the genre. After the disaster that was X-men: The Last Stand and then the less than stellar prequels, The New Mutants breathes a new life into franchise. Described as "Stephen King meets John Hughes", getting your own Breakfast Club together to go see it is a great way to start the spring.

6. Avengers Infinity War

THIS TRAILER IS AWESOME. Watch it, show it to your friends, watch it again, and get ready for what seems to be the BEST Avengers film yet. While you may not see EVERY Avenger in the trailer, what you see is more than enough to get you excited. I mean... the CGI job on Thanos may not be the most amazing thing I've ever seen but he's going to be one of the greatest Marvel villains that's ever been.

7. Deadpool 2

Everyone's favorite loudmouthed superhero is back. After the success of the first film, it was a no brainer that there'd be an eventual sequel. The teaser doesn't give much but it gives just enough to make you want more. If you need a Ryan Reynolds fix, journey over to his twitter. He's basically Deadpool anyways.

8. Ocean's 8

Literally every single one of your #WCWs in one place. A soft reboot of the Ocean's Eleven film series, it's taking the things to a whole new level of awesome the all-female team attempts the heist of the century. Already I strongly identify as Mindy Kaling's character and this is just the first trailer. Whether you're there for Sandra Bullock at her best or for Rihanna and the rest of the gang, you're in for a good time.

9. The Incredibles 2

It's been 84 years since the initial film... okay it's only been 14 years but it's felt like an eternity since The Incredibles set up for a sequel. At one point, there was the utmost uncertainty that a sequel would ever happen. BUT LOOK AT IT NOW! THERE'S A TEASER AND A RELEASE DATE! Summer can't come quick enough and if the sequel is even half as good, then it's well worth the wait. I mean, how many times have you quoted "Where's my supersuit?"

10. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

No one loves the Jurassic Park franchise more than me. That's a fact. I even loved the (albeit awful) third installment. That being said, Jurassic World brought about an entirely new generation of dinosaur lovers into the somewhat believable world of Jurassic Park. Now there's a sequel and JEFF GOLDBLUM IS BACK. Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm was one of the best parts of the original film and I can't wait to see what's in store.

11. Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again

ABBA can do no wrong. Neither can Meryl Streep. Or Cher for that matter. Yes, I said Cher. Lily James plays a young Meryl Streep and there are plenty of hot young actors to keep you occupied as flashbacks to Donna (Meryl Streep's character) and her life on the little island. Plus it's taking you back to Greece so even if you can't afford to go to the country yourself, you can bask in all it's glory with movie magic.

12. Alita: Battle Angel

Cyberpunk as done by James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez. Based on the manga by Yukito Kishiro, the movie takes on the first four books as a great introduction to the world of Alita. Starring Christoph Waltz and Rosa Salazar in the titular role, it hopefully won't make the mistakes of Ghost in the Shell and Death Note.

13. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Has there ever been such a thing as TOO much Harry Potter? The answer to that is a definite no. Getting to experience more of the world through Newt Scamander's eyes is an absolute bonus as it gives glimpses into what Wizarding America is like. PLUS Jude Law as a young Dumbledore??
