Your first couples holiday; a survival guide

You’ve been through it all. First dates, meeting the parents and even introducing them your housemates. Which was even more nerve-racking than meeting the parents, right? You've got enough money left in your overdraft* to spend on your first romantic holiday with bae. It's not something to take lightly. Your first trip away is a make-it-or-break-it holiday, so here are a few tips to make it go as smoothly as possible.

1. Manage your expectations

You're going away for the first time and will be cramped in a room, on a beach, in a car, by the pool etc with each other 24/7. Sharing a bathroom also means you're going to have to learn to be a little more comfortable around each other in the toilet department. Although dinner and drinks may be the most romantic set up in the world, it's a little more difficult to keep the spark going when one of you is suffering from indigestion. Don't be afraid to take a break and go for a walk on your own or spend some time at the pool apart. After all, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

2. Plan ahead

Work out what you both want from your trip away. It's not going to end well if one of you wants a party week in Kavos, while the other wants a cultural trip around Italy. Talk to each other and work out what your budgets are. Know where you'd ideally like to go and what you want to do while you're away. If you speak about it up front, there's no room for arguments later when your other half doesn't want to go to the local fossil museum with you.

3. Work together

Don't let one of you be in charge of all the organisation of the trip. It's only gonna leave one of you feeling cheesed off in the long run. Make a joint calendar that you can both add dates and deadlines to (romantic huh?). I find that the Wunderlist App is amazing for creating to do lists. You can then allocate jobs to each other and see when you've both ticked them off.

4. Enjoy yourself

You've no doubt worked incredibly hard this year! Whether you've just graduated or finished your first year. You deserve a break. Make the most of the time you've got with each other. Switch your phone off and make some beautiful memories. You never know - it may be the holiday you tell your grandkids about.

P.S. Don't forget the sun cream - severe sunburn and cuddling definitely don't go together.
