5 reasons to be hyped for Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is set to hit screens in the UK this Friday, 8th March (AKA International Women’s Day). Some members of the audience have been excited for this one since they picked up on the teaser during the post-credits scene of Infinity War. Other members of the audience may have never heard of Carol Danvers and hadn’t a clue why Nick Fury was using a pager in 2018.

No matter where you fit on that spectrum of excitement and bewilderment, Captain Marvel is surely going to be one of the biggest films of the year - here’s 5 reasons to get hyped.

1.The Soundtrack

Captain Marvel is set in the 90’s and will canonically take place before most of the MCU. Early reviews have applauded the nostalgia of the film and particular praise was given to the soundtrack.

If the soundtracks to the Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther are anything to go by, it’ll surely be a compilation of bangers and mash from the era most of us grew up in. TBTs soon come.

2. Brie Larson

As well as soundtracks, Marvel has also absolutely smashed the casting for the comic characters so many know and love. However, the responsibility of taking on the former leader of the Avengers on the big screen in the first female-led superhero movie in the MCU is no small task.

Luckily, Brie Larson has stepped up to the plate and seeing as she spent 9 months in the gym training for this role, as well as learning boxing, judo and wrestling - so we can be sure she isn’t taking the responsibility lightly.

3.The Skrulls

This film will feature The Skrulls, a shapeshifting race of aliens that have played a part in some of the biggest story-arcs in Marvel comics history. Their introduction to the MCU is surely going to raise some questions. Especially since it’s rumoured that at least one of the current characters in the MCU so far has been a skrull all along…

4. Most powerful avenger

Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios has stated that Captain Marvel is set to become ‘the strongest Avenger in the MCU’. This is hardly surprising given the fact her comic book power set is almost unmatched having super strength, speed, flight, the ability to absorb all energy and project it back as offensive photon blasts.

The fact this film is set partly in space will hopefully mean we’ll get to see Captain Marvel go all out and finally show audiences why she was the one Nick Fury called in for help after the Decimation.

5. Answers

Speaking of that incident, why did Nick Fury wait until 2018 when half of the universe was turning to ash to call in Captain Marvel? Why can she only be reached by pager? Where the hell is she based? Is Captain Marvel powerful enough to beat Thanos? How is she going to fit into the team? What does this mean for Avengers: Endgame? ...guess we’ll find out on Friday.
