7 year of the monkey recipes

Chinese New Year is upon us and 2016 is the Year of The Monkey! Say hello to some of our favourite Chinese dishes ever and prepare yourself for a feast. Whether you're chilling at home or hosting a buffet, here are 7 easy recipes that taste awesome and are better for you than take-out! Kick off with some bite-size chunks of tastiness with these Crispy Chicken Wontons or Sesame Chicken Potstickers. These little Potstickers, probably better known as gyoza-type starters are made out of the same stuff as the wontons just in different shapes! So, you could even make them both and get the most out of your wonton wrappers. Article_Chinese_1

Prawns and seafood

Let's get started on the main event with some amazing Singapore Noodles, this is a super meaty dish that's packed with pork and prawns. This dish doesn't include chilli, just a little curry powder, if your guests are overly into hot food. These noodles are packed full of flavour from peppers, onions and garlic and are the perfect one-bowl dinner. Next up on the menu are these gorgeous Jamie Oliver Szechuan Sweet & Sour Prawns, this dish has a bit more spice with the added chilli but has a lovely sweet hit from caramelised pineapple. Serve with sticky white rice for a really comforting dish or with loads of broccoli if you're watching the carbs! Finally, for those who love spicy food, this Kung Pao Prawn dish uses a lot of chilli and has the rich flavour of Chinese black vinegar and sesame oil. Article_Chinese_3

Chicken and beef

How about some classics? My childhood favourite from the Chinese takeaway has to be Chicken Fried Rice - one of the easiest and tastiest accompaniments ever in my opinion. All you need is chicken, rice that's already cooked, two eggs, soy sauce and your choice of veg to pop in with it. Last up, a stir-fry is always on the menu at my house and this Easy Beef Noodle Stirfry will make celebrating Chinese New Year just that little bit simpler. You could sub out the beef for any meat of your choice and cram it full of vegetables for loads of flavour. Article_Chinese_2
