6 mocktail recipes to help you survive Dry January

Christmas is all about overindulgence, particularly on the alcohol front, which is why I know I’m not the only one taking on Dry January to repent for my yuletide sins. I’ve been substituting my favourite tipples with some surprisingly satisfying non-alcoholic recipes to make the whole transition a little easier though. Here are some of my favourites:

Non-alcoholic Mojito

A mojito is my go-to cocktail so the prospect of a whole month without one genuinely hurts me a little bit. Non-alcoholic mojito recipe to the rescue! This one substitutes rum for apple juice, soda and elderflower cordial.

Cucumber Basil Sparkling Lemonade

This sparkling lemonade would be a great alternative for something like a Gin Collins and, if you opened your fridge this very second, I’d put money on the fact you’ve probably got cucumber, lemons, and basil in there which means you’re already halfway there! Add a little agave nectar and some sparkling water and that’s all there is to it.

Alcohol-Free Egg Nog

If you’re not quite ready to let go of Christmas, here’s a non-alcoholic eggnog recipe. Whole milk and double cream mean it’s definitely not the healthiest option on this list but since you’ve already given up alcohol, you’ve earned the right to treat yo’self!

Non-Alcoholic Strawberry Daiquiri

Granted, January probably isn’t the best time of year to be experimenting with frozen drinks but you won’t regret making an exception for this non-alcoholic daiquiri. You’ll actually be getting one of your five a day with the real fruit you’re using too!

Fizzy Rhubarb Shrub

If you prefer a sharper cocktail, this Fizzy Rhubarb Shrub combines rhubarb and apple cider vinegar for a tangy alternative to the rest. It takes a little longer to prepare, you’ll have to soak the ingredients for between 48 and 72 hours for the best results, but as the saying goes ‘good things come to those who wait’.

Coconut Peach Lemonade

Coconut and peach are two ingredients I’d never really thought of putting together but now that I have, there’s no going back. It’s creamy, fruity and refreshing all at the same time and it’s definitely one of my favourite discoveries from Dry Jan.
