6 hacks to make your student loan last longer

Being a student isn’t easy, let’s face it. When it comes to managing your own money it can be very difficult not to go crazy and spend it all at once. Trust me. We’ve all been there.

So if you’re short on money a few weeks after your student loan has dropped, we’ve got some hacks to help you make your money go that little bit further.

1. Plan your meals

It’s time to get organised. Wave goodbye to the last min Nandos when you’ve already got food in. We know it’s not easy (cos who can say no to Nandos?) but by doing this you’re saving an extra £20 a month or so which is more than you think. Every little bit adds up.

2. Decide on your priorities

Unfortunately, life’s not fair and you can’t have it all. Those new trainers you want. The latest PS4 game that drops. It’s time to decide what it is that you like treating yourself to the most. Nights out? New clothes? Premium brand makeup? Trainers? Make sure you’ve got the money for the things you really want by not splashing the cash on other purchases you can live without.

3. Pay with cash

It’s easy to not think about what you’re buying. Especially when it’s so easy to flash your contactless card. Studies have shown that you’re more likely to think about what you’re buying when you’re paying with cash. Don’t want to break into that £20 note? Then put the snacks back.

4. Use your student discount

So this one is pretty obvious. But seriously, by using the UNiDAYS app you will be able to save money on so many different things. From holidays, clothes and tech to food, beauty products and fitness. It’s definitely worth exploring because the chances are you’ll find a new discount code waiting for you.

5. Budgeting

Not exactly the most fun thing to do but it’s definitely worth it. By budgeting each month it’ll allow you to know how many nights out you can actually afford. It’s also helpful to see where you’re going wrong each month. There’s plenty of budgeting apps to help you do this which you should totally check out.

6. Sell sell sell

Your trash is someone else’s treasure. Instead of throwing old clothes away. Sell them! It’s pretty simple and that extra bit of cash can make a difference.
