10 of the UK's best pizza places

Any way you cut it, there’s no denying the allure of a steaming wheel of dough and cheese. From ones that are vampire-themed with charcoal bases to ones with bizarre brunch toppings, the popularity of pizza shows no signs of slowing soon. But not all slices are created equal, so we’ve got the DesignMyNight gang to offer some personal picks for the country’s most perfect pizzas.

1. Pizza Pilgrims - London

Spanning the length and breadth of the capital, all eight of Pizza Pilgrims’ pizzerias know how to entertain, especially the one in the City. From foosball tables and quirky murals to some very enticing happy hour cocktails (they charge £20 for a litre of prosecco), you’ll certainly be ready to get your hands on those doughy crusts, which start from as little as £6.

2. Lost Boys Pizza - London

Serving pizzas as black as your soul, Lost Boys Pizza’s charcoal crust is just the start of their mythology. Their two 80s-inspired venues are known to be home to vampire yoga, absinthe bars and crypt film nights, where you can get a pizza and a movie screening for £10. With some seriously fang-tastic puns running up and down the menu, you’ll have a tough time deciding between The Coffin Dodger and the You Killed Marco Pollo.

3. Bat and Ball - London

With Bat and Ball offering 2-4-£12 every Monday across all pizzas, this East London playground officially has you covered for Neapolitan-style slices. Keeping you from hunger and your energy levels at an all-time high, you should have no problem bouncing between rounds of ping pong, pool and cocktail-fuelled karaoke sessions as you scoff your slices.

4. Voodoo Rays - London

Promising £2.50 slices every Monday, and a whole 22” pie for £20, cult eatery Voodoo Rays has got that economical food coma covered. With slices that measure the same length as a human forearm we’d challenge you to make it to a third round.

5. Radio Alice - London

With venues in Hoxton and Clapham you can grab yourself a taste of the good stuff whatever side of the Thames you hail from. With whole pizzas starting from £5, there’s minimal airs and graces at Radio Alice and you can still wash down your meal with its ultimate accompaniment: box wine.

6. Tank and Paddle - London

An ideal location for any post-library pizza party, Tank & Paddle brings you beer, stonebaked bases and steaming sides of mac’n’cheese every week day. And if tank-fresh Meantime brews on tap and metre-long sharing pizzas weren’t enough, you can grab one of their specials for just £5 on Mondays.

7. The Stable - Birmingham

Beloved across Birmingham for its delicious food and extensive cider selection, The Stable is the one-size-fits-all pizza place you’ve been looking for. From their dedicated vegan offering to the £7 lunch menu, there are approximately zero excuses for not giving this John Bright Street pizzeria a whirl.

8. The West Hill Tavern - Brighton

Two words: Brunch. Pizza. Yes, you read that right. This Brighton pub boasts one of the town’s best dough-based booze ups every Saturday with shakshuka, avocado and eggs and bacon slices up for grabs - yes, obviously it comes with bottomless fizz. And you can make the most of their weekly menu with 2-for-£12 pizzas every Tuesday and Wednesday.

9. Pizza Punks - Glasgow

DIY your slices at this Glasgow pizzeria where they take care of the base, but everything else is up to you. Bringing some maverick topping choices you can fill your plate for as little as £5 with everything from Irn-Bru pulled pork to banana (bit rogue).

10. Crazy Pedro’s Pizza Parlour - Manchester

Bonkers to the final crust, Crazy Pedro’s Pizza Parlour makes a trade in silliness. From a sausage, chips and mushy pea pizza and nachos served in a garbage can, they’ve got options for every budget, from whole pizzas for £16 to a slice of something weird for just £3.
