Nail the basics: outerwear

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months (which would probably have been quite chilly anyway) odds are you’ve been dealing with the typical British weather and have made investments into your outerwear lineup.

Just because we’ve seen the back end of January, it doesn’t mean that the cold snap is over. Does anyone remember the great cold March of ‘99? Well, I made that up but the point is, it’s still freezing!

I’ve run down some of my favourite outerwear items, some of which you might already have and some of which you may have never thought of trying. Each one is sure to get you through from now until the sun shines again and in style.

Only & Sons Faux Fur Parka

Only & Sons is a brand I first came across a few months back, it started with a polo shirt, then a t-shirt and now I’m seriously liking this faux fur parka. I think everything looks better in black and combined with the dark faux fur, it’s bang on trend without being in your face about it. This has got to be my ideal city break jacket for the winter months, it’s going to keep you warm (winner!) and it’s also loaded with front pockets meaning you can keep things like your phone and wallet safe too.

New Look Camel Overcoat

I’ll forgive you if you think a camel overcoat is a bit of cliche but the fact is it just works. I love an overcoat for creating a smarter more refined look and I don’t think I’ve ever felt a cosier feeling than popping the wool collar and throwing on a scarf on a cold winter's day. By opting for camel over black you add a bit of interest to your outfit. Want to push the boundaries even further? Forget the jeans and boots and opt for a pair of skinny tracksuit bottoms for a real sports luxe outfit.

Levi’s Sherpa Jacket

You’ve probably seen sherpa jackets and borg collars everywhere over the past couple of months so a bit of an obvious choice this may be. For me though, the Levi’s Sherpa is the daddy of all fleece lined denim jackets. There’s a reason when we think denim we think Levi’s and the quality, fit and feel of this jacket is no exception. Granted, it’s a little more pricey than some of the high street offerings but this version is a classic that you’ll be able to whip out time and time again.

UO Reversible Field Jacket

If you’re feeling the current streetwear look then this field jacket is the one for you, my friend. I don’t think I’ve owned anything reversible since I was about 12 years old but I’m really loving the fact that this jacket has got a super low key black finish and then an out there bold orange side too. Teamed up with a simple white tee, slim or straight cut trousers and a pair of Vans and you’ve got yourself a solid, super casj outfit that’ll keep you both warm and cool at the same time.

The great thing about all the jackets mentioned in this post is that there are literally hundreds of versions and styles out there to be found and with a couple more cold months ahead of us now might be the time to add another bit of outerwear to your lineup.
