6 best cities around the world to spend NYE

Wondering where in the world throws the best parties to mark the coming of the new year? Here are the 6 best cities around the world to spend New Year’s Eve.

Sydney

With over 2 million people regularly attending the huge celebrations every year in Sydney, it’s easily one of the biggest NYE parties in the world. Sydney is also among the initial major cities to see in the new year. So if you’re one of those people who always has to be the first to do things, this should be on your radar.

The spectacular fireworks displays above the iconic Sydney Harbour skyline are now something of legend. So much so this centerpiece of the festivities is broadcast on TV screens across the globe.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong is better known for its straight laced financial service industry than throwing kickass parties. However, New Years Eve is seen as an opportunity for the territory to let its hair down and sees huge blowouts taking place in every corner.

Celebrations are centered around the Victoria Harbour. The stunning lights of its waterside skyscrapers get even brighter in the glow of the fireworks extravaganza that lights up the sky come midnight.

Edinburgh

It would be fair to say that the Scottish know how to party. So it should be no surprise that New Year’s Eve in Edinburgh isn’t a one day celebration, but a 3 day festival with a packed itinerary.

Hogmanay, as it’s known in Scotland, culminates in the huge street party that takes place under the lights of the Edinburgh Castle fireworks display. But the run up involves live music, processions, and numerous other fun events.

Rio de Janeiro

Known as Rio’s second biggest party, New Year’s Eve is like a mini carnival packed in to a single evening. Copacabana beach is the scene of the biggest knees up, with the golden sands hosting nearly 3 million partygoers.

Things start early with many people spending the whole day at the beach. But the real action starts in the early evening with live Latin beats, fireworks, and lots of dancing ringing in the new year.

New York

For many revellers, the Times Square celebrations are the be all and end all when it comes to ushering in the new year. Roughly a million merrymakers stuff themselves into the plaza surrounded by those famous LED advertising boards.

The lead up to the ball drop which signifies the start of the new year has become a star studded event. World class musical acts perform in the run up to the countdown, and there’s always the obligatory marriage proposal caught by the world’s TV cameras.

London

The renowned bongs of Big Ben signal one of London’s biggest parties each year, with festivities taking place along the banks of the River Thames. Enjoy the wild party vibes surrounded by the famous sites of Central London.

Midnight sees the London Eye become the launchpad for a breathtaking fireworks display witnessed by millions each year. The build up includes live music from some of the biggest names in the business.
