5 Nordic Easter treats

The lemons have been squeezed, the Nutella jars scraped clean...Pancake Day is officially over and the countdown to Easter is officially underway! I'm still all about the hygge hype. It’s all about enjoying the good things in life with good people. Especially good food - something the Danes and their fellow Nords know all too well. And with Easter fast approaching, what better time to start planning a festive feast? Here are five traditional Nordic foods to tantalise those taste buds.

1. Skidne Æg aka Dirty Eggs

What would Easter be without eggs, eggs and more eggs? Chocolate eggs and...dirty eggs?! The traditional Danish dish - whose name derives from the ritualistic day of spring cleaning - consists of hard-boiled eggs on rye bread accompanied with mustard and cress.

The buffet-style table of hot and cold dishes is popular spread put on at Easter. An assortment of cured meats, sliced cheese, liver pâté, smoked/pickled fish with a selection of bread and butter. Pass the carbs!

5. Easter Beer and Snaps Shots

No celebration is complete without beverages, and the Nordic offerings certainly don’t disappoint. Shots of Akvavit, more commonly known as Snaps, are taken during the course of the meal. The distinctive spirit is flavoured with herbs, spices and fruit oils. The Danes create a Speciality Easter Brew which is stronger and tastier than other beers. Skål!
