Get your tax in order

If you’re earning more than £1,000 a year from your remote job, then you’ll need to fill out a self assessment tax return. To get started, you’ll need to register with HMRC online. Your return can then be filed online, and you’ll need to do this for every tax year after you’ve registered, even if you have nothing to pay.

Also make sure you put enough money aside from your remote job to pay your taxes. You won’t have to pay taxes on earnings up to £12,570, and on any money you earn above this personal allowance, you’ll pay the basic rate of 20%. Set a fifth of these earnings aside to make sure you can cover your bill when the tax man comes calling.
