8 budget destinations perfect for summer travels

Are you looking to get away this summer but feeling a little strapped for cash? Desperate for a break but low on inspiration? Or just wondering which country will provide you with the most bang for your buck? Well don’t worry, we’re here to help! To help you find your perfect match, we’ve put together this list of 8 budget destinations that are perfect for your summer travels.

1. Thailand

The original home of budget backpacking, which despite its popularity, is still on point when it comes to value for money. Whether you’re looking for culture, history or just a great night out, Thailand has it all! We chilled out in Chiang Mai, let our hair down in Bangkok and got some beach time on the islands, all without breaking the bank.

2. Bolivia

Though it’s often overshadowed by its larger neighbours, Bolivia has some of the most unique and unspoilt landscapes in the world. Wonder at the incredible Salar de Uyuni - the world’s largest salt flat. Get dizzy visiting the highest altitude capital city in the world - La Paz. And cycle down the aptly named Death Road! Bolivia is probably the cheapest country in South America and is highly underrated and we can’t wait to go back!

3. Vietnam

Vietnam is home to the cheapest beer in the world, so that was a tick for us straight away! But it’s also got some of the most spectacular untouched areas of natural beauty in South East Asia including a beautiful coastline and world-renowned cuisine.

4. Peru

Admittedly, the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, one of the main reasons a lot of people visit Peru, is very expensive. But there is so much more to this country, and we found it very budget friendly. It’s an adventurer’s paradise and lays claim to part of the Andes mountain range, the Amazon rainforest and the incredible Lake Titicaca.

5. Cambodia

Cambodia’s ancient Angkor Wat temple complex is breathtaking, Phnom Penh has a bit of a party vibe and some excellent museums. But, our favourite part of the country was its coastline. A hammock on the beach costs next to nothing and what better way to enjoy these island paradises than unplugging and getting back to nature?

6. China

China is a vast and fascinating country full of wonder and intrigue. Admittedly, visiting tourist attractions like the Great Wall or the Terracotta Army is relatively expensive, but in contrast, the cost of living is extremely cheap. We were able to eat like royalty, drink like fish and travel huge distances on a very tight budget.

7. Laos

Often overlooked in favour of its larger and better-developed neighbours, much of Laos is virtually untouched meaning the landscapes are immaculate. There are a few larger cities, but a huge amount of people live in small, tribal villages without a lot of the conveniences we take for granted. And a bottle of lao lao, a lethal whisky-like spirit produced here, will set you back less than the price of a sandwich.

8 Colombia

We were stunned at how diverse Colombia is, from the ultra-modern city of Medellin to the traditional way of life that the tribes we came across on our trek to the Lost City still follow. And don’t forget there’s a Caribbean coast and a number of picturesque white sand islands as well. The street food is incredible and so cheap!
