5 ultimate Aussie road trip picks

While it is pretty hard to jam pack the whole of Australia into one (or even three) road trips we thought it was about time to narrow down the list to some of our top places to visit if you're dreamin' of an Aussie road trip!

1. Byron Bay

First on the list is a trip to Byron Bay. Whether you are a bit of an adventurer, a lover of relaxation or a foodie, Byron has you covered. Head out on an early morning hike up the lighthouse trail then for a surf or paddleboard and finish your day off at one of the local breweries or restaurants. Plus, Byron is a hideaway for so many famous faces you may just spot a celeb on your morning walk!

2. Great Ocean Road

Head out from the amazing laneways and coffee laden streets of Melbourne and down the Great Ocean Road and you will not be disappointed. The journey is a little bit majestic, with epic cliffs faces, sweeping beaches and plenty of swimming spots. Our top pick, if you are not heading the whole way along, would be to make it to Loch Ard Gorge, a beautiful beach set between rocky cliffs with caves to explore.

3. Cradle Mountain

If you want something a little different, heading to Tassie and climbing Cradle Mountain is a sure bet for an amazing few days. Summer or winter, the hike has amazing views and will keep you questioning whether you are actually still in Australia, until you see a rogue wombat and know that you definitely are.

4. The Kimberley

This removed pocket of Northern WA has so many options for exploring. Heading to El Questro Wilderness park should be high up on the list with waterfalls to find, deep gorges, thermal springs and wildlife everywhere you won’t get a more ‘Australian’ spot. Or, if you want to get in some sandy goodness Cable Beach has to be included. C’mon, we know it’s hard to turn down a ride on a camel!

5. Kangaroo Island

Finally, Kangaroo Island is a stop you have to do in South Australia, if you can tear yourself away from the fab cafes and bars in Adelaide. Most of the island is protected for wildlife so you will see your fair share of sea lions, kangaroos (obviously) and koalas. There is also enough local produce to keep your stomach happy, especially if you plan an adventure that includes a picnic!
