Let’s face it, heading back to the gym after the beige-binge that is Christmas can be super tough. Or, for some seriously motivated babes it can be really easy. But, for me, whether I’m feeling it or not, I need to have some cute gym wear to get me up and running. Here are 9 of my favourite pieces on the market at the moment that are guaranteed to get you pumped for that Body Pump class!
Let’s get straight down to it, a sports bra is the most important part of your gym kit. Whatever exercise you’re throwing yourself into, you need to make sure that you’re wearing an appropriate sports bra. This means that you won’t cause yourself any injuries and you’ll be comfortable whilst you’re training which are the most important things.
If you’re a yoga chick then a low-impact sports bra will be all you need to support you whilst you go through your flow. This Reebok baby blue crop top is everything - I really love the colour and low-impact sports bras can be really, really comfortable. If you’re running then this Asics Zero Distraction bra is perfect and you can also save a lovely little 20% - the perks of being a student, hey? Finally, if you’re a fan of circuit and spin classes then a mid to high impact sports bra is great for burpees, shuttle runs and kettlebell squats to name just a few exercises you’ll no likely be smashing out! Nike have just released this awesome new Flyknit bra out of their footwear technology which is meant to be incredibly comfortable and lightweight.
Leggings are the second most important thing to me when it comes to gym wear after sports bras. The perfect leggings have to tick all the boxes. Firstly, they have to be totally opaque and not the tiniest bit see-through (of course!) because nobody likes unwanted looks when you’re at the squat rack - no sir-ee! They also have to be stylish and a little bit funky for me because I like my fitness wear to be fun. It definitely motivates me to hit the gym more when I know I can wear something fun whilst I’m doing it.
I love these dark red Ivy Park leggings from Topshop, I mean if they’re good enough for Beyonce, they’re good enough for me plus you can save 10% on them all year round. Next up, these South Beach leggings with the stripe detail are really fun and are a bargain. Finally, the Nike Hyperwarm leggings are a little on the pricier side but they’re created especially for running outside and will definitely keep you toasty on these chilly January nights. I’ve always found that Nike leggings are great quality so I think they’re always worth the little bit extra. Don’t forget that you can grab 10% off at ASOS and Topshop with your UNiDAYS membership.
Trainers have become part of our everyday wardrobes and I am totally OK with that! I live in trainers but it’s usually flatter styles such as Vans that I rock day to day. When it comes to gym trainers I always like to have a little support and some bounce as I switch between running, circuits, weights and classes. If you’re like me and like to mix your workouts up then you’ll need some trainers that are going to be really versatile.
Something like the Asics Gel Quantum 360 Shift are great for this as they have seriously comfortable gel cushioning so will support you if you do want to run but they also don’t look too ‘serious’ as running trainers if you want to still keep it stylish. I love that they’re bright white too, they remind me of getting new P.E trainers at school! Next up, if you fancy something a little more colourful these incredible Nike Free Runs are the brightest things I’ve ever seen but they’d look awesome with all black gym kit. They’re really lightweight and flexible too so they’re perfect for gym work and classes. Finally, if you’re after a budget trainer that still packs a style punch and is perfect for all your fitness needs then these Adidas guys are already under £40 before you add your killer UNiDAYS discount on top.
There we have it, 9 of my fave pieces on the high street that are stylish, functional and sassy.
