How to deal once Spring Break is over

Time for a Spring Break Detox

So Spring Break is over... now what? OR if you're break isn't over yet (or hasn't even begun) you're already dreading it being over. That's just life, or rather, that's just the life cycle of a college student. You're just living from break to break until graduation. It doesn't matter how long a break is, when it's over... your daily routine is pretty much f*cked whether it be from eating terribly, spending like there's no tomorrow, or relishing in the fact you didn't have homework. So if the idea of break ending has you feeling like the gif below... I have a few tips that'll help you detox from the break you just finished (or will eventually finish).

Drink Water

It may sound silly but drinking water can go a long way. After replacing your daily intake with sugary sodas (or other beverages), you're probably feeling pretty crappy. Fill up a water bottle and take it to class. Drinking water throughout the day will stave off any unnecessary snacking habits you may have picked up while on break.

Rest up

What is a sleep schedule? That's something I always screwed up. It doesn't matter if it's Spring Break, Winter Break, or Summer Break... as soon as I no longer had a class to go to any thoughts of going to bed at a reasonable time were out the window. This may seem like common sense but I can't tell you how many times I thought I could live life like I was on break (i.e. staying up until 4:00am then attempting to do homework and making a 9:00am class). FOR YOUR OWN WELL BEING PLEASE SLEEP. As you near the end of your vacation, at least attempt to sleep at a reasonable hour and then once you're back IMMEDIATELY try to get back on the sleep schedule you so badly f*cked up by staying out all night.

Let your skin heal

It doesn't matter if you went skiing, stayed at home, or soaked up the sun on the beach... your skin is now angry at you. If you're like me and don't tan then stock up on that aloe and slather it on like there's no tomorrow. If you're the kind of person that's going to sleep in your makeup every night over break... then implement a skincare regime before break happens and keep up with it after. If you don't, that's on you. Then again, your skin is your skin and you know it better than most.

Find your motivation

The lack of motivation starts the month before break actually begins and continues long after. Find something that'll keep you going and on task. Doesn't matter if it's a playlist or simply one of your best friends. Motivation can be as easy as telling yourself you'll get froyo once you've read a chapter. You have to find what works for you in order for it to be successfully motivating!

Get your spending habits under control

It is VERY easy to spend like there's no tomorrow. I am a repeat offender when it comes to this and when you're in the "vacation" state of mind... everything falls apart. Something that's always helped me is to set a budget before you even go on your trip. If it's too late for that and you're reading this once break is actually over, maybe skip a couple dinners out and hit up the dining hall if you have a meal plan. You can also always make your own coffee rather than going out and buying it. Little changes to your spending habits will keep things in control and help you in the long run.

Eat something healthy

The temptation is REAL when it comes to break. Either you tell yourself "Hey, it's vacation... I can eat whatever I want" or you're just too lazy to actually do anything besides order pizza. I mean... it is break. I certainly don't like going to buy groceries when it's the ONE TIME I get to relax. Once you've indulged and had your fun, eat something healthy. This doesn't mean you have to completely change your lifestyle but eating something healthy every now and again gives your body a reprieve from all the junk you typically eat on vacation.

Set a routine

This is easier said than done. I've told myself time and time again that I'm going to set up a weekly routine for laundry and even as I'm writing this... I can see the laundry piled up in the corner. That being said, much like the skincare regime, if you implement a routine before you head off for break it'll be easier to pick up once you're back. This can be anything from a homework schedule to a workout routine. What you can't do is let your lack of motivation get in the way and your routine slip. This will only lead to stress and no one wants to be stressed when they're at school (even though stress is both inevitable and unavoidable).
