All-star five: young women entrepreneurs slaying it

In recognition of Women’s history month and the fact that there are so many awesome women who are entrepreneurs putting a positive dent in this world, I am choosing to share just a few women who are taking the “startup world” by storm. Some of whom you may know and others, who in their own right, should be known.

Not only are these women referenced as “All-Stars”, but they are young (even as young as 16 years old when they first started), raised a ton of money in funding, creative thinkers, who have millions of users to date, and are making money in strides. I think that is “All-Star” status, indeed! I would definitely recommend doing a tad bit more research on the ladies I’ve rounded together as well as the MANY others that are not on this list because there are so many others.

Launched in November 2009, Rent the Runway offers over 25,000 dresses and accessories by well-known designers like Badgley Mischka, Vera Wang, Calvin Klein, and more. A total chance to rock some of the best for less! How cool is that, especially when you’re on a budget with tuition, books, food, and all the other stuff we have to divvy up, right?

This rock star came up with the idea of “Miss O and Friends” at the age of 10 and is now very popular in the “tween” market and stands on the notion of her company being for girls built by girls. Juliette aims to have her company help girls build their self-esteem and develop who they are. If you ever decide to take a quick peek at her website, you’ll be sure to find topics about fashion, nails, pitch games, entertainment, all about life, and more. In this day and age, everything has become digital, which is awesome for those of us who enjoy having access to things quickly and more efficiently than the “snail mail” as we call now it—of mailing through USPS and hoping that whatever is being sent arrives at its destination on time. Well, Paperless Post is just one of the many “diamonds” that have placed its stamp on the way we receive and give invitations, holiday cards, date cards, greetings, announcements – you name it! Founded in 2009, Alexa and her brother created the idea that people would eventually want to use the internet to send wedding invites. Today, it continues to be a success and it proves that people are a big believer in efficiency and cost effectiveness when it comes to communicating offline. Hooray for Paperless Post! What a game-changer AND time saver!

Alexa Andrzejewski

  • Her Company: Foodspotting
  • Age: 32
  • Estimated Figures: $3.7 Million in funding

Who wouldn’t want to be able to find and recommend dishes instead of just restaurants? I mean, how many times have you found a really great restaurant, only to find out that not all of their dishes are their best dishes? What a bummer! Well, this is the cool perk about the Foodspotting website and app. Simply set your current location and you’ll be on your way to finding and sharing great dishes from several categories such as fries, sausages, teas, pasta, chicken, cake, etc. Once you’ve found a dish that meets the eye, simply click on the photo and unlock loads of information such as the restaurant’s location, how many people have tried that dish on the site, how many people have loved it, and more. Five stars for Alexa!
