7 simple tips to slay spring recruitment

With the beginning of the spring semester comes something you've been either dreading or planning for your entire life: spring rush (or as it's now known, spring recruitment). While most schools have recruitment in the fall, some have it in the spring as a way to give students a chance to acclimate to college life before joining a sorority. Other schools have spring recruitment for upperclassmen only. Whatever your situation, here are 7 simple tips that'll help you slay recruitment week:

1. Be yourself.

This is pretty self explanatory. While you may want to be the ~cooler~ you when meeting your potential sisters, you need to know you're already the coolest version of yourself. By being true to you, you're much more likely to find a house you vibe with. Nothing is worse than going through recruitment only to end up at a house you have nothing in common with. As they say, it's not just a club... it's a commitment. An image Gif Source

2. Keep your cool.

It's okay to be nervous. In fact, it's almost a guarantee you're going to be nervous. Going through recruitment is an emotional rollercoaster and something not everyone is prepared for. You feel the highest of highs and the lowest of lows and that's okay. Talk with your roommates, your friends, your mom, your dad, whoever is closest to you really, about how you're feeling. This way you're guaranteed to make it through the week with the biggest smile on your face. No one wants to have a breakdown as you're meeting the girls. An image Gif Source

3. Dress the part.

Now I don't mean go out and buy yourself a brand new wardrobe (although you can certainly use your UNiDAYS discount to do so). No, what I mean is that if there are certain rules and requirements to follow, then follow them. You don't need to feel stifled by said rules but it's a lot easier to have everything picked out beforehand and not to go too wild on the outfit front. An image Gif Source

4. Make friends.

If we're being honest, isn't this the entire point of recruitment anyhow? It doesn't matter if the girls in your group pledge a different house, you all went through the same experience together and that means a lot. After all, you can joke with them about everything you've seen and heard over the course of the week. An image Gif Source

5. Stay organized.

This is extremely important. A lot of times, you have to give up your phone so it's important to have your schedule straight as you go throughout the week. Depending upon your school's rules, you could find yourself ineligible to continue on with recruitment if you show up late or miss a day. While it's not a life or death situation, it can majorly suck if you miss out on the opportunity due to a disorganized schedule. An image Gif Source

6. Keep an open mind.

This is probably THE most important rule and ultimately the key to happiness. If you go into recruitment focused on one house and one house only and then you don't get that house... well you're setting yourself up for failure. By going in with an open mind, you can meet all the girls without preconceived notions and may end up surprising yourself with your ultimate choice. An image Gif Source

7. Have fun.

Finally, just have fun with it. If you go in thinking it's going to be a miserable experience... it will be. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Recruitment is something you only go through once (or maybe twice) in your life. It's something you'll remember for the rest of your days and could very well be the place you meet some of your best friends. Enjoy it! An image Gif Source
