7 steps to a capsule travel wardrobe

In an effort to stop spending more money on clothes for my holiday than the holiday itself this year, I’m taking my travel wardrobe back to basics. Here are 7 steps for how you can do the same!

1. Plan your outfits

Coming up with an outfit for each day and night means that when it comes to packing, you’ll only take what you really need.

2. Be realistic

Chances are, if you’re going on a hot beach holiday, you’ll get little to no wear out of things like heels and body con dresses. Take into consideration your destination, the weather and the kind of things you’re going to be doing on your trip so you can make sensible choices.

3. Set a budget

Every pound you spend on an outfit you might not even wear is a pound less you get to spend on making memories on holiday. That £40 kaftan doesn’t seem quite so appealing now does it? Set an amount you’re willing to spend and stick to it.

4. Mix and match

Basic tops are a great way to get the most out of your holiday wardrobe. Pair a faithful pair of shorts with three t-shirts and you’ve got three different outfits for a fraction of the price.

5. Invest in the basics

Whether it’s a staple sandal or a proper pair of sunglasses, spending a bit more on quality pieces you know you really need makes them more likely to last for holidays to come.

6. Avoid trends

As a general rule, if you’re likely to have fallen out of love with it by your next trip away, avoid it. You’ll save yourself money and suitcase space in the long run.

7. Recycle

What pieces from your current wardrobe could you incorporate into your holiday one? Loose fitting trousers, a denim skirt and a simple shift dress are all things that you can wear on holiday and at home.
