How to create a zen space

During self isolation it’s now even more important than ever to ensure your space is peaceful and relaxing. This will help with your wellbeing to stay in a positive frame of mind throughout these uncertain times.

1. Declutter and keep your space tidy

Now is the perfect time to get rid of all that stuff you don’t need. Whether you sell it online or have it ready to give to charity… having a declutter will make you feel so much better and you’ll have more space too

2. Use aromatherapy

Along with boosting relaxation, there are lots of healing benefits of aromatherapy. Using aromatherapy candles and diffusers throughout your home will work wonders for your overall health as the essential oils in aromatherapy activate your brain’s limbic system. The limbic system controls your emotions, memory, learning, and more. To create a zen space, I’d recommend lavender as it reduces stress and calms the nervous system, lowering blood pressure and heart rate.

3. Get as much natural light as possible

Get out of bed, make your bed… and let the light in. With no routine it’s easy to stay in bed, but you’ll feel so much better for it if you get up and let the light in. Try playing around with different lighting options to create your own mood lighting, but avoid any harsh, bright lights.

4. Remove electronic distractions

Scrolling Instagram all day isn’t the best thing to do. In order to relax it’s best to have as little distractions as possible. Try an hour a day with no electronics to focus on yourself. Try reading a book, sitting in the garden or going for a walk in a quiet place.

5. Neutrals

A zen inspired design is all about soft, neutral colours such as white and shades of grey and beige which stimulate calmness and relaxation. It’s time to put the bright colours away and focus on bringing natural tones into your space.
