3 reasons why young people should travel more

Travel is expensive. But it doesn’t always have to be and there’s no better time to explore the world than right now.

I am currently in America, one month into a three-month trip and I’ve spent this time working at an underprivileged camp for children in the California hills and it’s made me see why travelling independently while you’re young is one of the best decisions you can make. Here are three reasons why you should travel more:

1. This is the best time to do things alone.

Travelling alone is a journey for self-exploration. You have no attachments and can be completely independent. From experience, I can tell you, you learn so much more about yourself from travelling alone. You might not just want to travel though, and there are a multitude of things you can do abroad, for example, you may want to volunteer abroad or do something to better not only yourself but also the community you inhabit. But nonetheless, getting out of your comfort zone and immersing yourself in something new is great for your own personal growth.

2. Or the best time to do things in a group.

Everyone should at least go on one trip abroad with their friends in their lifetime. It’s a time to get away from the norms of everyday life, soak up some sun or brace yourself for the cold and experience something completely different from the usual. Travelling in groups not only strengthens friendships but gives you the opportunity to see your friends in a different light, one where they may feel uncomfortable being out of their comfort zones or completely buzzing to be trying something new. Travelling allows you to create lifelong memories with the people who are special to you.

3. Travel is an investment for your future.

From navigating your way around a new environment to making new friends out of strangers, travelling is beneficial in so many ways and so many opportunities can come from it. For example, working abroad looks great on your CV and altogether makes you a better-rounded person when you’ve experienced a multitude of different cultures. Being able to adapt to different situations builds character and travelling can prepare you for so many different difficult situations in life.

There’s no better time than the present. So book a flight. See the world and be a better you, for you.
