5 meal prep hacks and ideas

Meal prepping and all out getting your shiz together saves you more than just time. You’ll be less stressed in the morning when you’re running out the door, you’ll be more likely to eat healthily and when you’re tired after uni you’ll have something easy to pop in the microwave that doesn’t have a weird plastic film over it. Plus, on top of all of this, you’ll save a tonne of money from not just grabbing whatever food you can see. Basically, what we’re saying is, meal prepping is kind of awesome

1. Be a cereal killer

Even if it’s just pre-packaging your cereal into a smaller portion to eat when you get to the library or making yourself a fruit salad to eat on the bus, little bits of preparation can make mornings a whole lot easier. You could even pre-cook things like breakfast muffins or create overnight oats to grab out of the fridge first thing!

2. Snack hacks

If those mid-morning and afternoon cravings hit you hard and you’re often found elbow-deep in the biscuit tin you might need to up your snack game. Make a batch of whatever snack you fancy on a weekend and then you’ll have one to take to uni every day of the week. This could be some healthy flapjacks or energy balls or you could even grab some yoghurt, fruit and chopped nuts and make yourself some little parfait treats that keep well in the fridge.

3. Lunch date

Prepping lunch can be one of the easiest things when it comes to meal prepping. All you need to do is make sure you create double portions for your dinner time and then have that the next day for lunch. You could even make 4 portions and split them up over the week for lunches and other dinners if you feel like really getting ahead!

4. Dinner

When you get home and it’s cold and dark, the last thing you want to do is cook, right? What if your dinner was already done when you got home? No, your mum’s not come round. You’ve got yourself a slow cooker. Literally, this thing will change your life! From chilli to stews and soups and even baked potatoes, you can do anything in a slow cooker and you can set the timing from 4 to 8 hours depending how long you’ll be out. Check out some of these awesome recipes.

5. Freeze!

Always make too much food? Never throw away your leftovers! Stock up on food storage tubs and freeze those bad boys. Even if you enjoy cooking from fresh there will always be some days when you know you won’t have time. Either defrost the morning of your dinner or thaw in the microwave. Easy, fresh and homemade!
