7 beauty trends for 2018

We might only be a couple of months into the new year but when it comes to the world of beauty, that means it’s time for some fresh new trends.

Here are some of the ones you might want to bear in mind before you embark on your next beauty haul.

1. Big brows

Good news for those of you who committed to the big brow look last year, they aren’t going anywhere. If anything they’ll be wilder. The bigger the better and preferably brushed up seems to be the way to go.

2. Flawless skin

This is something that trends pretty much every year so you know the drill. A good coverage foundation that doesn’t look heavy on the skin, a complexion-brightening blush and plenty of highlight to go with it.

3. Glitter, everywhere

On the lips, eyes, cheeks, you name it, you’ll be putting glitter on it if you’re wanting to keep up with 2018’s beauty trends. Charlotte Tilbury’s Eyes to Mesmerize cream shadows and the KIKO 3D Hydra Lip Gloss are a couple of glitter-based products I’ve tried and can recommend.

4. Short hair, don’t care

2017 saw the return of the bob and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere this year. It’s looking a little less polished on the runway... so you might want to swap the perfectly curled, blunt cut for something a little rougher around the edges.

5. ‘Out there’ eyeliner

You can forget the natural, smudged into your lash line eyeliner you’ve grown accustomed to. 2018 is all about the daring and exaggerated liner. From hollow flicks to bold bottom lash definition.

6. The classic lip

A red lip is something that never really goes out of fashion, so of course, it made the 2018 cut. The red lip is a great way to dress up a plain t-shirt and jean comb. Or add a touch of glamour to a sophisticated evening look. Make sure you get the right one for your skin tone and complexion. Cherry reds tend to suit paler skin tones and more orangey tones compliment olive skin as a general rule.

7. Goodbye contouring

The Kardashian clan may be growing but love of the chiselled, contoured look they’re so famous for definitely isn’t. Go for a softer, bronzey glow that’s less precise if you’re planning to follow the trend this year.
