6 minimalistic basics you need for the warmer weather

Hello warmer weather and hello to the struggle of not knowing what to wear. Not that I’m complaining because I live for the summer.

I don’t know about you but a change in weather always leaves me wondering what the hell to wear as I try to rummage through last year’s summer clothes in the hope of finding something I’m still digging. That being said, it’s partly why I now try and stick to minimalist basics when buying new clothes... in the hope that they’ll be pieces I get to wear time and time again and that they’ll go with pretty much everything I already have in my wardrobe. Feel free to have a nosey at my grid for some outfit inspo.

With the warmer weather on its way… here are some minimalist basics you need for the warmer weather:

1. White blazer

For when the clouds suddenly make an appearance or to dress up an evening outfit. A classic white blazer is perfect to chunk on top of almost any outfit. A fave of mine for summer is to style them with an oversized tee and cycling shorts, over some paperbag shorts and a vest top or with a cute summer dress.

Missguided have a range of different white blazers this season. Whether you prefer the oversized boyfriend fit or something more fitted with a belt, you’ll be sure to find something for you.

2. Maxi dress

The perfect option for keeping cool without showing much skin (or having to shave your legs). At the moment I’m absolutely loving this polka-dot number from Zara which I’ve had my eye on for a while. It’s got a nice loose fit which will stop you getting too hot, as well as the polka-dot print which makes the dress more of a statement piece. The dress looks great styled with a leather jacket and trainers for something more casual, as well as heels for an evening do or an occasion like a wedding or the races.

3. Paperbag mom shorts

These off-white paperbag shorts are an absolute dream and the right length so your bum isn’t on show. You can style them with a silk shirt for a more formal look like Kate has below, or with a simple vest or tee for the most casual look. You could also dress them up with a lace bodysuit for an evening look and some barely there heels.

4. White trainers

A shoe that will never go out of fashion and goes with everything. Whether your budget allows you to splurge on some Balenciaga’s or whether it’s more Nike, Adidas or even Primark... there are plenty of options to choose from to suit your budget.

5. Cute crops

You can never have enough cute crop tops and although having a range of styles in black and white means you’ve always got something to go with the bottoms you’re thinking of styling, adding a pop of neon will really bring it up to this seasons trends. Check out Pretty Little Thing for a vast range of colours and styles.

6. Cycling shorts

Although you might absolutely hate them, trust me when I say you should give them a chance as you’ll soon understand what all the hype is about. They’re the comfiest things ever and look great with a trust oversized tee and trainers. Head over to ASOS for a wide range of colours and patterns.
