It was only Christmas last week? Wrong. March is here folks, and if you’re as ready as we are to ditch winter for spring, we have a heap of ways for you to spend the month. DesignMyNight have rounded up the very best things to do, from a wild St Patrick’s Day party with a troublesome Irish mob to drinking cocktails and playing Pac-Man at Manchester’s first ever arcade bar.
We almost can’t believe it, but winter is finally coming to an end, and the best way to celebrate is with a ticket to Holi in the City. This quirky experience will see you hurling colourful paint at your friends in one gigantic party pod, for an entire 30 minutes. When your arms are ready to give up, you can refuel with a cocktail or two at their pop-up bar. Not a fan of cocktails? Not to worry, they’re serving Cobra beer too.
Whether you loved Beauty and the Beast or you couldn’t get enough of Sleeping Beauty, it’s time to relive your favourite fairy tales, but this time around, with booze. Wish Upon A Brunch is popping up in Brighton this month and it’s promising an entire evening of frivolous fun. Expect sing-a-longs, banging brunch dishes and bottomless bubbles. Just try not to do a Cinderella and lose your shoes at the end of the night.
The Lost Lagoon? Sounds kind of… eerie, doesn’t it? And that’s because it is. This top secret underground lake is recruiting buccaneers for the journey of a lifetime; setting sail in pursuit of ingredients to make a secret rum punch. But do you have the skills to survive? With castaway characters, temperamental weather conditions and the constant worry of shipwreck, this experience isn’t for the faint-hearted. But if you do make it out with all ingredients, you’ll be rewarded with entry to a hidden bar.
Spring officially starts on 20th March, and what better way to start the new season (and forget about all those deadlines) than with a scenic boat trip. Alfred Le Roy will be setting sail every Friday this month, floating you down the River Lea for two hours of bliss. Costing only £10, it’s a great way to get out of hibernation mode, and in case you weren’t aware, they’ll have a fully stocked bar with all kinds of booze, from beer to cold glasses of white wine.
Step away from the ugly green leprechaun hat. There’s one helluva St Patrick’s Day party happening in London this year and it’ll have you partying with mob bosses and gangsters - meaning no tacky novelties from the pound shop. You’ll have to wear your finest flat caps, braces and furs to this do, but make sure you have your wits about you - the Irish mob don’t take too kindly to trouble makers.
Consider yourself a swinging sensation? Putt your money where your mouth is at this crazy golf course and bar that’s a world first. Puttshack uses ground-breaking technology to total up your scores (goodbye cheating), and the holes you meander across are nothing short of incredible too; think beer pong courses and ones where you have to play a drum set with your golf ball.
Manchester has gained its first ever gaming bar and as you can well imagine - it has a top notch selection of games to get stuck into. From Donkey Kong to Pac-Man, you’ll find the hours whizzing by, especially if you hit the bar. In terms of drinks, they have a great beer and cocktail selection. Pick from the Mario or the Luigi that’s made with gin, mint soda, coconut, lemon and white chocolate, and make the most of your carefree evening.
Speaking of firsts, Birmingham has gained a first too, and we’ll be damned if we don’t give it a mention. Reggae Brunch is a must-visit this March, and there’s not one, but two dates to choose from. Your day will start off with an entire hour of bottomless cocktails, followed by three courses of Carribean food; think jerk chicken, sweet potato and pumpkin fritters and carrot cake. Resident DJs will mix the very best in soca, calypso and bashment until it’s time to head home at 5pm.
Home of the mighty freakshake and the cheesebomb burger, Maxwell’s Bar & Grill are ahead of the game when it comes to wacky creations. And to keep up their rep they’ve released another handful of specials for you to ooooh and aaaah at. They have a watermelon freakshake dessert that’ll make you feel like a kid in a sweet shop - it’s garnished with candy floss, marshmallows, and sugary rainbow belts - but they also have a new burger called the Triple P. It’s a meaty master piece that comes with a jug of onion gravy for your pouring pleasure.
Art where the heart is? Even if you didn’t get to take it as a masters, you can practise your favourite pastime at this unique life drawing class in London. Popping up at different venues across the capital, this fun night out will see you painting with neon materials to create an abstract portrait of the life model (who’s also covered in neon paint). Encouraging you to think outside the box, it’s a must do this March.
