How-to: make me blush

This post is brought to you by MAC Cosmetics.

We’re well into the new year and now the initial shock has died down, we’re starting to look forward and think about what our goals are, what styles will dominate and, of course, which beauty trends we’ll be seeing all over our Insta feeds.

We’ve teamed up with MAC Cosmetics to break down one of the hottest beauty trends we’re going to be seeing and that’s subtle pink. Don’t forget to shop all the products and grab 20% off with your UNiDAYS discount.

Behind the look

Adding a bit of blush is the easiest way to liven up your complexion, and in the dreary months at the beginning of the year it can be a great way to add some fun to your makeup looks. It’s likely that over the Christmas period you were rocking more heavy makeup and dousing yourself in glitter, but this look is a happy medium between that and having a completely bare face.

The focus here is completely on pink and the real star of the show is a pink lip, which acts as an anchor for the whole trend. There’s nothing like bringing those Spring colours out a bit early and this look is also perfect for the Valentine’s season.

How can I create the look?

For this look, we’re using MAC Cosmetics products and although you might associate their makeup with more full-on looks, their products are way more versatile than you probably think. In fact, this whole look is really buildable so it can be as light or as heavy as you want.

Step 1

Use MAC’s Studio Fix Soft Matte Foundation Stick and apply directly to your face, as needed. Blend into the skin using your fingers, sponge or a brush. We recommend their 170 Synthetic Rounded Slant Brush - it’s perfect for buffing out and blending the foundation formula to create a smooth and even finish.

Step 2

Apply blush to cheeks and eyes using Powder Blush Duo, which happens to come in this beautiful limited-edition prismatic packaging. The great thing is that this blusher is buildable, which means it can be made more dramatic and you can change the look from a more daytime vibe to an evening one, in no time at all.

Step 3

Next, you want to prep the lips with MAC’s sugar-based Lip Scrubtious, which will gently exfoliate dry and flaky skin so your lips are in the best shape before applying balm and lipstick. To apply, take a pea-sized amount in your finger and use circular motions on your lips. Use a wet towel, tissue or just rinse before moving onto the next step.

Step 4

Use Prep + Prime Lip by starting from the cupids bow and working your way outwards to apply a thin coating across the lips and over lip edges. It reduces lipstick feathering and provides long-term hydration so perfect for the colder winter months, with or without lipstick!

Step 5

This is what really completes the pink look. Get your hands on the new Love Me Lipstick, a weightless, argan-oil infused lipstick that gives an instant hit of colour and all-day moisture. No excuses for your lips to not have that satin-soft finish. It’ll also continue to leave your lips softer and smoother after repeated use - score! A tip here: when applying, use two colours and apply the lighter shade at the centre of the lips. This creates a fuller looking lip. Here we used a combination of Hey, Frénchie! and Vanity Bonfire.

And there you have it! A fresh and soft makeup look that’ll give you that much needed pop of colour.

Don’t forget to use your UNiDAYS discount with MAC Cosmetics to get 10% off any of these products including the centrepiece of this look, Love Me Lipstick. We love it <3
