Golden Globes 2019: The round up

The 76th annual Golden Globes hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Sandberg did not disappoint. Kicking off awards season in style, the Golden Globes had it all. From surprise winners to memorable speeches and questionable fashion choices.

Surprise winner

The Queen movie Bohemian Rhapsody took home two awards, for best drama and best drama actor for Remi Malek who played frontman, Freddie Mercury. A Star Is Born took home just one award (best original song for Shallow) despite being heavily tipped and nominated.

Another big win of the night went to Green Book. Taking home three trophies for best musical or comdey film, best screenplay and best supporting actor for Mahershala Ali.

Memorable speeches

Another surprise of the night came when Glenn Close won best drama actress for her role in The Wife, after Lady Gaga was expected to win for her performance in A Star Is Born. In her empowering speech, Glenn spoke about the importance of women following their dreams:

‘Women, we are nurturers, that is what is expected of us. We have our husband and our children and we have to find personal fulfilment and follow our dreams and we have to say, 'I can do that' and, 'I should be allowed to do that'.

Fashion

As expected, to kick off awards season in style the stars turned it up for the red carpet. Which look was your fave?
