4 ways to nail the short sleeve shirt look

Tips on how to nail a short sleeve shirt might seem a bit trivial but it’s a look that can lead you dangerously close to looking like a dad at a summer bbq if done wrong.

With that in mind, I’ve put together 4 tips that are guaranteed to have you pulling off this super cool look every single time.

1. Go bold

There’s been a huge resurgence of 70’s style patterns and prints when it comes to short sleeve shirts, the more garish the better. I’m a big fan of an abstract print and making it the showpiece of your entire outfit. Opt for bold and bright colours teamed up with a simple monochromatic colour scheme downstairs. This Topman shirt is perfect for any summer event.

2. Keep it relaxed

Over the years we’ve been used to buttoning up that top button but with the short sleeve shirt it’s all about looking informal and relaxed. Typically made of softer, lighter materials, short-sleeved shirts are all about the flow of the fabric and undoing a couple of buttons really adds to the look. Still feel like you want to button the top up? Opt for a revere collar instead to avoid temptation!

3. Don’t fight the floral

It’s 2018 and there should be no boundaries when it comes to fashion. Floral shirts create one of the most natural and colourful patterns possible and are perfect for making a statement. A personal favourite of mine is large scale, brights flowers on super dark fabrics to really make the colour pop. Team with your favourite tapered chinos and minimalist trainers for the perfect date night look. Shop a similar look from New Look with this black floral shirt.

4. From day to night

The best thing about short-sleeved shirts is their ability to take you from day into night with just a couple of tweaks. If you’ve been hitting the daytime drinks and want to keep partying, all you need is to freshen up, swap the shorts for trousers and throw on some casual shoes and you’re there! Need something a bit more formal? Add black skinny jeans and your favourite Chelsea boots for the ultimate rock and roll vibes.
