While the ever-growing list of ways to spend your summer may feel a little overwhelming (especially after having zero plans for three months), we thought we’d enlist the help of DesignMyNight to narrow down your search for outdoor activities. From musical bingo brunches to cocktail festivals and bottomless comedy nights, the nightlife know-it-alls are here to make sure that every venture out of the house this summer will be more than worth your while.
Barrio has got big plans for spicing up London’s brunch scene this summer, and it involves churros, bottomless cocktails and Madonna classics. This Shoreditch party bar is turning their tropical garden into the ultimate weekend retreat by throwing in all the winning components for an epic brunch bash. You’ll be treated to a welcome cocktail and an almighty game of 80s musical bingo mixed with bottomless cocktails, soaked up by not one but two brunch dishes, featuring their utterly addictive churros.
While most of us weren’t destined to walk the white sandy beaches of Spain this summer, that doesn’t mean a tropical escape is completely off the cards. Fulham Beach Club is here to cushion the blow of your cancelled holidays with their giant seaside-style pop-up. Just £12.50 will get you access to their Ibiza-worthy hangout that’s kitted out with two beach bars, private seating areas and comfy daybeds so you and the gang can social distance in style.
If you’ve been a serial park-goer this summer, it’s time to take a break from lukewarm Pimm’s. Midnight Apothecary is back open for al fresco drinks, and it’s more than worth braving the heat for. That’s right, London’s top secret rooftop garden has returned with everything you could want from a summer night in the city. Think fire pits, half-priced botanical cocktails and a food delivery service that allows you to order dishes from surrounding restaurants straight to your table.
If you’re looking for more than just a drinking destination when good weather calls, Love Pub + Grub is the spot for you. Not only has this outdoor oasis got a stocked-up bar with drink deals aplenty, there’s also giant games for some unadulterated big-kid fun, from blown-up Connect Four to jumbo Jenga. And when it’s time to refuel? There’s an incredible selection of street food to get stuck into.
We all know that Londoners love a cocktail, and it wouldn’t be summer if there wasn’t a whole bloody festival dedicated to them. Cocktails in the City are returning to the beautiful Bedford Square Gardens in celebration of boozy concoctions. The whole day revolves around drinking £7.50 cocktails from your favourite bars, with big-name venues on the roster including Callooh Callay, Nightjar and Laki Kane. And as if that didn’t already sound like the best day ever, there will also be live music, street food and interactive classes to distract you from drinking one too many…
London’s original shuffleboard hub is bringing something new to their old-school activity bar, by taking their much-loved bottomless brunch to their open air shuffle terrace. That’s right, you can now take your brunch game to new heights by booking a lane on their top floor, complete with an airstream cocktail bar and huge parasols for when the weather isn’t cooperating. Your ticket will include a 55-minute shuffleboard session (plenty of time to show your mates what you’re made of) along with two hours of bottomless prosecco and a selection of their signature pizzas.
While reasons to laugh have been a tad hard to come by recently, Vauxhall Food & Beer Garden have thought of a fool-proof way to keep spirits high, and it combines stand-up comedy with bottomless booze. A £35 ticket will see you settling in for some top notch giggles and great value drinks as some of the UK’s finest comedians entertain you in between your trips to the open bar, where you’ll find everything from beer and wine to spirits and mixers (G&T we’re looking at you).
For those looking to spend as much time at the beach as possible this summer, let us introduce you to Brighton’s Palace Pier Cinema. These outdoor screenings are set against postcard-worthy views of Brighton beach and a £20 ticket includes a fuzzy blanket for getting cosy post-sunset and an obligatory box of popcorn. You can also get fish and chips sent directly to your seat for £8 extra, and there’s also the opportunity to order drinks throughout the film if you’re thirsty (or just looking for a boozy fix).
If you’re keen to partake in some socially distant drinking then Manchester’s Lawn Club is a bar that belongs on your summer hit list. This al fresco pop-up is perfect for long awaited get togethers, with lots of private seating areas; think mini greenhouses to spherical lawn pods that are free to book. With the bar churning out summer cocktails and craft beers, what more could you want from a day drinking sesh in the sun? Except some Greek street food-style grub (which they’ve got too, by the way).
Gin fans are in for an absolute treat this September as Liverpool’s getting its very own festival dedicated to the juniper spirit. Your boozy journey begins by grabbing your complimentary G&T, before heading off to explore the bars that are stocked with over 150 varieties of gin, ranging from classic brands to some other quirky creations. Cocktail masterclasses will also be in full swing, and street food traders will be on hand to soak up all those drinks you just had to try.
