We know you really love your significant other. They’re the one that’s there for you when you’re too hungover to cook and bring you Maccy D’s, and are always there to bitch about your annoying flatmates to. So, when the big V-day comes around, it’s only natural you want to show them how much you love them. However, we also know that student life is expensive and when you’ve only got a tenner in your bank account, is it possible to show them you care? OF COURSE! And we’ve got five ways you can do just that!
1. Cook them a meal
We’re not talking about the classic bowl of pasta you make when they normally come round. Use an actual recipe and cook them something you know they love. Spend a bit of extra time at the supermarket and pick up some ingredients that show you’ve made an effort. More often than not, cooking something nice doesn't have to cost loads more than what you normally eat, but as most of us know, most of our hearts are in our stomach.
2. Make them a card or scrapbook
Getting a big crafty is always a sure fire way of showing you love someone. I know what you’re thinking...isn’t this a bit cringe? Well, it doesn’t need to be at all. You don’t have to go all hearts and glitter, but printing some cute pics of you together and slapping it on a piece of card can actually be a really nice gift, because they’ll always have something to keep too. If you’re feeling extra crafty you can even go down the scrapbook route and add in things you’ve kept over the course of your relationship e.g. tickets or cute notes.
3. Do something together
There are so many inexpensive ways to spend time together on Valentines. In all honesty, going out to a fancy restaurant on Valentines Day can be overrated. Everyone is in couples and it all seems a bit like forced fun. Why not set up a snuggly area in your room and have a movie night complete with home-made popcorn. Or even get a bit retro and play a board game, because spending time together is the most important thing.
4. Get a small but thoughtful gift
If you decide to get a gift, it doesn’t have to be some big extravagant present. If your bae is a half decent person they will understand when you don’t come out with a Tiffany’s necklace. If you get a really thoughtful gift e.g. if they’re really into Stranger Things and you get them a t-shirt with Eleven on it, that can be more meaningful than something you’ve splashed the cash on.
5. Use your talents
No, get your mind out of the gutter (although not a bad shout.) But, are you good at drawing? Why not create a comic strip where your partner features? Are you known for great massages? Set up a pamper evening. Good with technology? Create them their own app! Get creative and think about all that talent you have for free!
Happy romancing!
