5 overseas summer jobs for travel lovers

If you’re set on getting away after exam period this summer and want to earn some funds while you’re doing it, then you should consider getting a job abroad. There are plenty of options that will see you earn a few bucks and give you the opportunity to travel at the same time, so we’ve picked out 5 of the best.

WWOOFing

WWOOF stands for World Wide Opportunities On Organic Farms, which sums the idea of this scheme up pretty well. But it’s become the byword for virtually any overseas labouring work on a farm, and there are plenty of positions all over the world, not all affiliated with WWOOF organisations. If you’re up for an adventure and don’t mind getting your hands dirty, then heading abroad to spend some time working on a farm could be a great way to travel and earn some cash to pay for it while you go.

Language Au Pair

Au pairing is a popular way to get overseas and make some cash at the same time, but it can also be pretty involved and parents often look for longer term appointments. Language au pairing is a twist on the traditional role as your only responsibility is to help your host family improve their conversational skills in your language. That means no childcare or cleaning! Placements come with free accommodation in the host family’s home, free meals, and often a small salary on top.

Theme Park Attendant

If roller coasters and water rides are your thing then a summer role at an overseas theme park could be right up your street. It’s surprising just how many big theme parks there are beyond the big boys that we all know about, and summer is peak season in most countries. That means they need seasonal staff to help the parks run doing everything from selling tickets to operating the rides. Europe, Asia, and North America are all popular destinations for theme park jobs and some will provide subsidised accommodation and free admission so you can ride the rollercoasters til you’re sick.

Sports Coach

If you’re passionate about sports and want to help other people fall in love with your favourite activities then perhaps you should consider becoming a sports coach for the summer. While you don’t necessarily need sports or coaching qualifications for many of these positions it often helps if you’re already studying something relevant. What you do need is bags of energy and good organisational skills to help deliver fun training sessions to groups of kids.

Summer Camp Worker

Summer camps for kids are a long-standing tradition in the U.S., but they’re becoming increasingly popular across Europe as well. If you enjoy working with children and want an activity packed couple of months then a summer camp job could be perfect for you. They’re full on as you’re required to be available 24 hours and you’re responsible for overseeing a gang of kids, but you get to spend a couple of weeks outdoors in the sun and can earn a stack of cash doing it.
