3 things you need to know about sex rn

Unstoppable STIs, slut shaming, pregnancy scares and revenge porn. Since when did sex get so sinister? There's been a spate of gross, mean and nightmare-ish news around something that used to be called 'making love' so here are 3 things you need to know about sex in summer 2017. Including how to avoid the superbug of the STI world and why revenge porn is way more serious than you think.

1. The antibiotic resistant version of Gonorrhoea

Eww. The clap just got brutal. Gonorrhoea, the elusive and usually treatable STI has had a reboot. According to the World Health Organization, there's a (sometimes) untreatable gonorrhoea 'superbug' spreading around the world. There have been three cases, in Japan, Spain and France where no treatment has been successful in curing this specific type of Gonorrhoea.

"The bacteria that cause gonorrhoea are particularly smart," says Dr Teodora Wi, the medical officer for Human Reproduction at WHO. "Every time we use a new class of antibiotics to treat the infection, the bacteria evolve to resist them."

What actually is Gonorrhoea?

Sex ed memory failing you? Same here. Here's a tiny reminder about what exactly the G-monster is. "It is an infection that is caused by a bacteria which is passed from person to person via unprotected vaginal, oral or anal sex. According to the NHS, it can also be transmitted by sharing vibrators that haven't been washed (gross). Symptoms include "thick green or yellow discharge from the vagina or penis, pain when urinating and bleeding between periods". If left untreated, it can cause pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage and infertility." Seriously horrendous. Thanks to Refinery29 for that delicious update that I'm glad I didn't have to actually pen.

Want to avoid this disgusting nightmare? Get checked and never have unprotected sex. Like, never.

2. Getting revenge

With Blac Chyna's lawyer seeking a restraining order against Rob Kardashian and rumours that he could be sent to jail over his revenge porn incident, sexy photos are having some serious airtime. Now, we're not all from the family K or don't all have 100000s of Instagram followers but imagine that cheeky photo you sent to that cute guy going viral around school, college or uni and you having to tell your dad about it. You can't just go all Blac Chyna and dye your hair unicorn hues to get over it, you're going to be super embarrassed. Keep it in your pants, everyone, dick pics (and the girl equivalent - don't know what the cute name for those are?!) are not welcome and could get you in serious trouble.

The verdict

Rob Kardashian tweeted to respect yourself but we think that you need to respect other people too, no matter what they've done to you it's not OK to share intimate photos that they trusted you with. Remember, you liked them at one time. What's the message here? Want to know more? Check out the Revenge Porn Helpline.

3. Her results on paper

When from Amber Love Island was force fed the morning after pill we're hoping that this gave you guys a little shock and some realisation that although they're on telly, being irresponsible still has consequences. As much as I love this show (and I do love watching it, don't get me wrong) I do think that it can bring a bit of a bad influence on how to look at your love life. Bed hopping aside, unprotected sex is not the one. Contraception is totally free on the NHS, all you need to do in contact your GP. Never be embarrassed about looking after your sexual health because it's so important. Don't be an Amber. Still not convinced? Head back to point 1.
