8 cool and quirky things happening in February

Some have said that February is the worst month of them all, the no man’s land of winter, with Christmas a distant memory and spring still out of reach. But those people clearly haven’t seen DesignMyNight’s round-up of amazing events around the country, from a huge beer festival through to riding a killer whale down the Thames...

1. Predator Adventures - London

Those traumatic Free Willy childhood cinema experiences look positively tame compared to Predator Adventures, the only Seabreacher experience in the UK. Reaching speeds of up to 60mph, the whale-shaped speedboat is designed with an F-16 fighter-grade glass cockpit and induces some serious G-force. Strap in as a driver whizzes you through the Thames at break-neck speeds, dipping and diving out of the water as it goes.

2. Craft Beer Rising - London

If there’s one thing that makes February a whole lot better, it’s the return of Craft Beer Rising. The UK’s biggest craft beer festival is taking place in The Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane and will be a glorious gathering of more than 185 producers from around the world. Along with being able to drink enough beer to sink a small ship, the event includes London’s hottest street food stalls and a killer line-up of DJs such as Massive Attack’s Daddy G, and DJ Krafty Kuts.

3. Winterland - London

Winter has well and truly come; we say embrace the cold and never-ending darkness with this cosy cute pop-up. Winterland was serving up magical vibes when it opened before Christmas and it’s returning with more gorgeousness this February. Open Thursday - Saturday, the spot will have igloos, a karaoke booth, an enchanted forest, prosecco pong, mini golf and DJs - all for only a fiver.

4. Bottomless Brunch at Honest Burgers - London

If January is all about New Year’s Resolutions, then February is about realising our best selves - which more often than not involves a bottomless brunch. Honest Burgers in Old Street is bringing their take on the London trend with a meal that includes whoppers such as bacon sarnies, pork steak with breakfast gravy, and avocado on toast. They’re also going big with the drink offering; slurp bottomless lager, prosecco, and cocktails for 90 minutes.

5. Ultimate Power - Brighton

Is there anything better in life than a cheesy club night that involves hollering your heart out to pop music? Ultimate Power certainly don’t think so and the cult club night is landing in Brighton’s Komedia this February. With the pretty ambitious promise of being ‘the best night of your life’, the event combines air guitaring, tunes from the likes of Bon Jovi, Bonnie Tyler and Meatloaf, and, of course, a lot of communal singing.

6. Bongo’s Bingo - Glasgow

Lasers, confetti cannons, blaring music and party carnage - welcome to the world of Bongo’s Bingo, the most fun we’ve had with numbers, well, EVER. Taking place in Glasgow’s favourite clubbing spot, SWG3, this February, the night promises big prizes and even bigger silliness. Sure, there’s bingo games, but there’s also mass singalongs led by hilarious hosts, dancing on tables and lots of glow-stick waving.

7. Perilous Potions - Edinburgh

Form an orderly queue as a Harry Potter themed, immersive bar opens in Edinburgh. From the same people behind the city’s Game of Thrones pop-up, the new bar will delve you into the wizarding world. The spot is inspired by Snape’s potions lessons; visitors are expected to mix and muddle cocktails such as Goblet of Fire and Draught of Fire using their magic wands and help from the potions book. Neville Longbottoms beware - the taste of each cocktail is dependent on your ‘wizarding ability’.

8. The Stable - Birmingham

You don’t need us to tell you National Pizza Day is on the 9th February; who hasn’t had it marked in their calendar for months? What we can do is tell you one of the hottest spots to grab a cheesy slice in Birmingham. The Stable is not only a stripped back and casual dining space, it also has a mouth-watering selection of pizzas, including toppings largely sourced from the South West, such as Bath Pig Chorizo and Dorset Blue Vinny Cheese. There’s a long list of vegan pizzas too with bases made from sourdough, meaning pretty much everyone can celebrate National Pizza Day in style.
